Crossing the Equator

We got an early start from Equator Green Gardens and didn't have to ride far before crossing the actual equator. As luck would have it, the main equator sign was right in the middle of being repainted that day, so we had to settle for a secondary option.

​Today was all about smooth riding on paved tarmac—a huge treat for our legs. But as we kept descending to lower elevations, passing huge Termite hives every couple of hundred meters, the heat picked up significantly, making a pit stop at a gas station for cold drinks and ice cream: an absolute lifesaver. Since this region is well-known for its local honey, we also made sure to pull over and pick up a jar along the way.

​We reached Bush Baby Camp at Lake Baringo in good time, which turned out to be a very nice campsite. It even had trees at the right distance to hang our hammock! We set things up in the shade to beat the heat, organized a boat tour for tomorrow, and settled in for the evening, expecting a quiet and relaxing night - but there were some surprises waiting for us...Read more
