• Breakfast with the locals

    Aug 13–14 in Kenya ⋅ ☀️ 32 °C

The sunrise at Lake Baringo was as beautiful as promissed. We saw lots of non-Tucan-Tucans (like Tucans, just in small - real name unknown) and packed up our tent before the camp host took us for breakfast in his village. We received big mugs of Kenyan tea, as always filled right up to the brim, as well as chapatis and Kenyan Donuts. Njam!
We had our breakfast with a group of locals and learned about Kenyan agriculture and the hardships of day to day life in the arrid Rift Valley.

Energised we continued on towards lake Bogoria. While on the road we were humbled to see many women and children hauling large yellow cannisters of water from far away water sources back up to their villages. How lucky are we to be able to just turn on the tap whenever we need it...

The day got super hot and so we decided to stop in Lake Bogoria Spa Resort (a dated but kinda fancy resort in the middle of nowhere) for a snack and ice cold drinks. Heaven!

On dusty tracks and in the scorching sun we continued towards Netbon Bogoria Kudu Camp, a pretty rundown place with old bandas somewhere in the middle of nowhere as well. The village's main attraction was a stream of hot thermal water, which passed right behind the camp site.

After arriving at the camp, we went and purchased some water in a local shop, where the owner - who had passed us on his motor bike a couple of hours prior - made us try his local Acacia honey, which was exceptionally sweet and flavourful.

To finish the day we took a plunge in the natural hot spring, ate some leftover chapatis with guacamole and called it a night.
