Climbing back out of the arrid zone

Today started hard, but ended with great views.

The first section took us on a long and arduous hike-a-bike.
After crossing the steep section, the villages in the area seemed in a better state, there was far more fertile ground and soon even short stretches of tarmac roads.

We stopped for lunch in a local hotel where we got two big portions of beans and corn with obligatory Kenyan tea for just 1.55 EUR 🫨 At the scam-hotel a few days prior we paid more than 10 times that.

While shoveling down our beans, we had a nice chat with a friendly and eloquent local, who told us about Kenyan customs. He was the last born male in the family, and thus had to come back to his village to take care of his parents and the land.

We continued on to reach Kapicha Community Ecotourism Centre - a community run view point and camp site with grant-financed washrooms and toilets - which featured stunning views over Lake Bogoria.

After indulging in the view as well as a large dinner which was provided for us by the community, we pitched our tent and went to sleep.Read more
