Two friends from Oakland were visiting family in Honolulu, so I flew over to catch up for them for the day. We met up at the Kahala Mall for lunch and a movie, followed by ice cream!
I set out from MKK early in the morning. While I was waiting to board an Aunty came into our little terminal with an armful of fragrant lei she had made from flowers growing along her back fence and handed them out to everyone.
On arrival, a coworker from the magazine I had edited remotely the previous year picked me up from HNL airport and we went for breakfast. I then used an all-day bus pass to get from the Ala Moana end of the city to the Kahala Mall, which is out by Diamond Head, and back to the airport after my day out.
As my Mokulele Airlines island-hopper flight flew back to MKK, I caught a lovely pic of the Diamond Head crater in the late afternoon light.
It's always great to catch up with old friends!もっと詳しく
旅行者Lillie and Pik ordering ice cream after the movie. We had lunch at this little food island in the Kahala Mall before the movie, as well. Highly recommended!
旅行者I had also met up with Lillie and Pik back in 2016 when they happened to be visiting and I was on my first ever trip to Hawai'i. We went to Diamond Head and Lillie walked up to the lookout on the edge, but Pik and I stayed down below in the crater. Many legendary rock concerts were held there in the 1970s.
旅行者 Early morning at MKK, with a sliver of moon visible in the sky.
旅行者 Edited out my face in this pic of the fragrant lei. Haha!
