I forgot to mention it yesterday, but since I've shot past Umeå, I have entered the Botnia Bay.
When I woke up this morning, I spotted another neighbour on the docks, the nice wooden boat from 2 days ago. I think they arrived late: at least they weren't at the dock when I went inside my boat for the night and I don't know when I fell asleep, but I didn't hear any engine noise before. While it would have been fun to talk to them, when I had everything ready for the day and there were still no signs of movement aboard, so I left. The forecast said the wind was going to make a 180 and blow softly from the south. So I wanted to be on the sea for that, ready to use as much as I could before it calm down for the night again.
After a few manoeuvres to get going, I hoped to not make as much cap towards my destination as I could. Instead, I opted for a slanted approach which meant longer distance but hopefully at a higher pace making up for it. It's hard to tell if that was the right choice seeing as there are really few sailboats on the sea. The only one I can see now looks like one of the modern cruisers (that was also at the dock yesterday) which has much more sail area. It is gaining slowly on me, but not more than could be expected, I guess.
I've used the autopilot for a good portion of the day so far. Partially because the conditions suits it and don't require my full attention to the trimming and the helm, but also because I am still tired from yesterday. While I don't dare to go in for a little nap, it's more relaxing to just sit there and look around.
I am not sure where I will stop for the night, but I would like to make a good distance today as this is my last day of holiday. From tomorrow, I'll have to work before going sailing, which will considerably shorten the next steps.
I'm still roughly 80 nm away as the crow flies but more realistically about a 100 nm of coastal sailing from Luleå. While I'm disappointed that I wasn't able to complete the trip to Luleå within these 17 days, I've still covered a good distance and had a really fun time. I'm curious to see how much I can sail in the evening and I guess instead of packing lunches as I was doing so far I'll start packing dinners 😅

J'ai oublié de le préciser hier, mais depuis que j'ai passé Umeå, je suis entré dans la baie de Botnie.
Quand je me suis réveillé ce matin, j'ai vu que j'avais un nouveau voisin : le joli voilier en bois avec qui j'ai partagé la baie il y a deux jours. Je pense qu'ils sont arrivés tard hier : ils n'étaient pas là quand je suis allé me coucher et je n'ai pas entendu de moteur avant de m'endormir. Ç'aurait été sympa de leur parler, mais il n'y avait aucun mouvement à bord quand j'avais fini tous mes préparatifs. Du coup, je suis parti sans avoir pu leur parler. La météo annonçait que le vent allait faire demi-tour et souffler tranquillement du sud avant de se calmer pour la nuit, et je voulais être sur l'eau pour cette bascule et utiliser au maximum ce vent.
Après quelques manœuvres pour sortir du chenal, j'ai décidé de pas faire autant de cap que possible et de faire un long zigzag en espérant que la distance ajoutée sera compensée par le gain de vitesse. Ce n'est pas facile de dire pour l'instant si j'ai pris la bonne décision, car il n'y a pas beaucoup de monde sur l'eau. Le seul voilier que je vois est sûrement un des gros croiseurs modernes qu'il y avait au port hier. Même s'il semble gagner sur moi, ça n'a pas l'air d'être plus que ce qui me paraît normal (en plus d'être récent, il a vachement plus de toile que moi et Elvria).
J'ai beaucoup utilisé l'autopilote aujourd'hui. D'une part parce que les conditions y sont propices et ne demandent pas une attention constante aux réglages des voiles ou au cap suivit, mais aussi, car je suis encore fatigué d'hier. Même si je n'ose pas aller faire la sieste, c'est plus relaxant de simplement regarder autour.
Je ne suis pas encore sûr d'où je vais m'arrêter aujourd'hui, j'aimerais bien faire une bonne distance aujourd'hui. C'est mon dernier jour de vacances et après, il va falloir que je travaille la journée avant de naviguer en soirée, ce qui va considérablement raccourcir mes prochaines étapes.
J'ai encore 80 miles à vol d'oiseau (mais plutôt 100 miles de navigation côtière) pour atteindre Luleå. Je suis un peu déçu de pas avoir atteint Luleå après 17 jours de voyage, mais j'ai quand même couvert une bonne distance et je me suis bien amusé. J'ai hâte de voir comment je vais pouvoir naviguer en travaillant et j'imagine que je vais devoir commencer à préparer des diners en boîte plutôt que des repas de midi 🤣Read more
