Finally in the "capital of EU/Xmas"

Some curiosities and a piece of advise:

C1) The last stop on the F line is the city of Kehl... which is beyond the border, in Germany. Strasbourg itself has been a Prussian/German city for many years and still today all the signs in the city are written woth in French and German.

C2) The city is the (main) seat of the EU Parliament and consequently Strasbourg calls itself the "Capital of Europe"

A1) To visit the city by car the best option is to park in one of the main P+R car parks and then reach by tram the train station, in the center of the city.
It is very cheap (€4.20/day) and in this price it is included the ticket of the tram for 7 people.Read more

Very tidy and super militarized

The cleanliness and order of its streets are really surprising.

Due to the very high alert level in France, it is not possible to go more than 500 meters without encountering heavily armed police/military/gendarmerie patrolling every street and corner.Read more

The "Petite France"

The entire area of the "Petite France" is an UNESCO heritage site since 1988.
It seems ancient... but in reality it was built in the 70s. Indeed, the entire neighborhood was razed to the ground during the Second World War, and rebuilt faithfully to the original after the WWII.

All the houses are characterized by an amazing wooden structure which remains visible from outside the building. This way of building, dating back to the Middle Ages, is typical of Germany, Switzerland and especially the Flemish areas.Read more

Xmas market and "light" food!

In the "Christmas capital", as Strasbourg calls itself, you cannot miss the stalls selling food and various objects, present in each of its beautiful streets.

With around 1°C temperature, a very good Jus de Pomme Chaud "hot apple juice" is what you need.

The local cuisine is very good, but certainly not dietetic! Lots of butter, bacon, potatoes and fried stuff. To drink the sweet vin chaud (hot wine) or a very good hot chocolate.Read more

The Gothic Cathedral of Strasbourg

The endless decorations of the Gothic style church are amazing, in particular the dozens of statues depicting various characters which are sculpted on the door.

The bell tower, 142 meters high, it is equally beautiful and can be seen by the majority of the Christams Market streets full of tourists.

Unfortunally there was mass going on and we couldn't get into the Church.Read more
