Two and a half hours north from the Algarve is a lovely walled town called Óbidos (AH•bee•duhsh). We did a day trip to the town which was nice. Had a drink or two after walking the castle wall. Gladly. Was what we call the usual for a tourist town, All the shops, vendors and restaurants. The castle wall is impressive. No railings on the ramparts and 10-60’ drops. Got the adrenaline going a bit.
We found a Stay and Play deal at a nearby resort called Royal Óbidos Golf Club and Spa. 7 nights and five rounds of golf with options to play five different courses. The golf kept us busy. We also found some nice restaurants, a favorite of which was Saca Rohlas (corkscrew in Portuguese)—a little hole in the wall wine & tapas bar in a small town nearby. The owner was a hoot and the rabbit samosas were so yummy we ordered another round. Great vino too and and spectacular value—€50 for 8 glasses of wine & 5 generous tapas plates.
We also did some drives just exploring. It is a really nice area. Nothing seems to be in a hurry with the exception of one or two crazy drivers. We saw flamingos, more storks and a giant carp that wanted to eat our golf ball retriever.
Not a chance in hell! Now we know how they got rid of unwanted visitors. 😂 Looks like a good place for unemployed roofer. Beautiful flowers. Thank you for sharing your adventures.🥰 [CJP]
