• South of France Part 1

    30 de set.–23 de out. 2024, França ⋅ ☁️ 73 °F

    France is a great place (and would probably be even greater if we could speak the language… man do they take it seriously 😳).

    Flew into Bordeaux, picked up rental car and away we go. Broke up the trip south with a walk along the canals and aqueduct in Agen, then a night in Toulouse. Dinner at L'Os a Moelle—Caroline is obsessed with cassoulet so guess what we had in the home of Cassoulet? Yup, plus some foie gras for me. Yum!

    Now we are in Pont Royal in Provence, about midway between Avignon & Aix-en-Provence (btw, Aix is pronounced “aches” like, “Ow, my tooth aches.”). It’s a golf community with a Seve Ballesteros-designed course. Kicking Caroline's ass again for the most part. Haha. There’s a large canal nearby (the French really take their water seriously) which has a decent gravel path along each side for walking. The weather has been gorgeous…a few rain showers and some wind but generally high 60’s/low 70’s (20-22°C) and lots of sunshine.

    So far:
    ~ Some wine tasting, including a stroll around Chateau La Coste with some seriously impressive (and definitely weird) sculpture;
    ~ Farmers markets—you can basically find a market in a nearby town any day of the week
    ~ Road trips to the Grand Canyon of France—Gorge Verdon and some very cute villages that are built into the hillsides.

    Today we’re off to L’Isle Sur La Sorgue for another farmers market that is also known for antiques and canals.
