Tour of Valor Day 3

Today was a very short day of dodging storms.

One really bad one slammed down at 0530, and I just barely got under the porte cochere at the church next door to the dealership in time to keep from being instantly soaked. Lightning and thunder galore. I stayed there for almost an hour, then when the rain seemed to ease up (but was still pouring down), I darted the quarter mile to McDonald's, where I parked, grabbed my tank bag, and bolted inside without getting too terribly wet.

I hung out there until 0900 when the radar showed I was in between cells. I got lucky on the way to Baton Rouge and only hit some sprinkles, wet roads, and road spray along I-10.

I was also extremely lucky to have avoided the second torrent in Natchez. I thought I was north of all the liquid sunshine and stopped to eat (and waste time) at a sit down restaurant. When I got ready to leave around 1230, I looked outside and it was absolutely pouring again. I hung out until 1330 when radar, again, showed I was between cells, so I darted northward to Monroe. Close calls indeed!!

At the dinner this evening at Warhawk HD (BTW never get your bike serviced there if you can avoid it), I was telling a friend about my run in with two dumpster divers last night. Just as I had gotten to sleep, two adult men on little bikes zoomed past me to check the dumpsters. When they got done, they came back to me and apparently wanted to chit chat. I made it pretty obvious I did not want to talk with them, and they left. But I fitfully slept with my stick-em-with-the-pointy-end attached to my wrist the rest of the night.

My friend didn't like that story at all, and insisted that I share his hotel room. So very nice of him, and I didn't argue. But by the end of the dinner he said I couldn't stay with him...because he got me a room to myself 😱. What a wonderful person. Thank you!!!!

So here I am in the hotel, showered and ready to sleep comfortably and safely in a cozy bed with great air conditioning. Thanks again!!
