Day 5: Fishing Day Two

We set up traps the day before and when we checked them this morning we found some freshwater crabs, river prawns, and shrimp. Erland and Moises went into the water today. They tried seining but the branches at Puente Laboratorio #1 were obstructing the net.

I was so proud of catching my first fish today in a large hand net called “el jamo.” Erland made the pole for the hand net using a machete to chop down a branch to attach it to the steel part of the net. My first fish caught was a Knodus or a type of tetra with a blue lateral stripe.

We had Cinda join us for fishing. My boot got stuck at Puente Titi in the mud while I was fishing. Marie had to rescue my boot from the muck at the bottom as I hopped out on one foot. 🤣

This evening we went on a canopy walk with the guides. On the way there, we found katydids, frogs, and spiders. I followed Erika and Sarah up there. I was stung by a wasp and so was Sarah. We saw the Milky Way Galaxy up in the sky. I spotted a toe-toed sloth climbing down the wire of the canopy walk. I felt so proud of myself for having spotted it.Read more
