Day 11: Goodbye Iquitos, Hello Lima

It was a bittersweet day today. We had our last breakfast prepared by the Explorama staff and my luggage was packed by 6:45 am. I also took a bracelet and keychain that the Maijuna had given to us as gift upon our departure on Saturday.

Many of us traveled back to Iquitos with Garly and Cesar for 2.5 hours. It took me two boats, a van, and airplane to arrive in Lima. Cesar fed us lunch boxes and saw that we all checked-in okay. I said goodbye to him and made my way through security with the other gals. I arrived in Lima at around 3:35 pm and retrieved my luggage by 3:55 pm. By 5pm, I was at my hotel, La Luna Inn.

Roberto, the Taxidatum driver, was very friendly. He gave me some recommendations about what restaurants to try in Lima. That evening I walked to the “malecón” (boardwalk) in Miraflores and saw the beautiful sunset. I went to the Parque de Los Amantes and saw the pigeon-infested sculpture and the love locks. ❤️🔒 The mosaics that cover the elongated benches reminded me of Gaudí’s Parc Güell,

I walked down what seemed like a million stairs to La Rosa Náutica for a pisco sour and ceviche. It was a nice view of the Pacific Ocean 🌊 and its rocky beaches. After dinner, I walked up the million stairs again and this time, I took a ramp up instead. I walked through Parque Kennedy and saw the little gatitos that used to control rodent populations back in the day. Nowadays people adopt the cats 🐈 and take good care of them. They are housed and fed by locals.Read more
