    Our day began with a visit to a local village, offering us a glimpse into the lives of the people who call the Amazon home. Afterward, we began our journey back to Manaus, arriving by late afternoon at the Encontro das Águas (Meeting of the Waters) - a dramatic, several mile long divide where two of the world’s largest rivers — the muddy Amazon and the inky black Rio Negro collide in a mesmerizing, turbulent maelstrom.

    Here, the dark, tea-colored waters of the Rio Negro flow side by side with the milky-brown currents of the Amazon, refusing to mix for miles, creating one of nature’s most stunning spectacles.
