    It was an early departure from Santiago towards the south via the Panamerican Highway, passing the city of San Fernando onto Santa Cruz, in the heart of the wine zone. We visited Colchagua Museum, known today as one the most complete Museums in South America. Colchagua Valley is famous for producing some of Chile’s finest wines. In particular Cabernet Sauvignon and the Carmenere variety that was thought to be extinct until rediscovered in Chile in 1994.Baca selengkapnya

  • Santa Cruz to Pucon

    We travelled south along the highway passing orchards and plantations of fruits and vegetables, as well as a big timber industry. Early evening we arrived into Pucon, located in the heart of Chile’s Lakes District. On the way we stopped for lunch at the impressive Salto del Lajas waterfalls.Baca selengkapnya

  • Pucón

    1–2 Nov 2017, Chili ⋅ 🌧 9 °C

    We awoke to a wet morning and were unable to do the Pucon Hike. Instead we did a walk at Ojos Del Caburga which has three beautiful waterfalls. We then visited Caburga Lake. Early afternoon we visited a traditional Mapuche family. Around the kitchen fire they told us about their daily life. We both were dressed in their traditional clothes and participated in their events. Before enjoying a traditional meal, we played a game of Palin which is similar to hockey. The remainder of the afternoon we were free to wander around Pucon.Baca selengkapnya

    Located within the Nahuel Huapi National Park, Bariloche is a city in the province of Río Negro, Argentina, situated in the foothills of the Andes on the southern shores of Nahuel Huapi Lake. We were fascinated by the peaks on the mountain ridge behind the city. The next morning we walked into town and caught a bus to the gondola to Cerro de la Silla and Murray was delighted to find more Condors! In the afternoon we did a chairlift ride to a different view of the lake and mountains before going to our high tea at Llao Lao.Baca selengkapnya

  • Bariloche

    On our free day in Bariloche we spent the morning walking the town streets...yes, did buy some chocolates. In the afternoon, we caught the local bus with another couple in the group (Anne and Graham from Wellington) to the national park for a 3 hour hike through beautiful rainforest and a fantastic view at the end of our climb.Baca selengkapnya

  • Bariloche to Puerto Blest

    It was a foggy morning when we left our hotel in Bariloche. After a 30 minute bus ride to Pureto Panuelo, it was a one hour cruise across Nahuel Huapi Lake to Puerto Blest where we stayed the night. On the way there were hungry seagulls wanting to be fed and lots of waterfalls. We arrived to clear skies in Puerto Blest.Baca selengkapnya

    We really enjoyed our night at Puerto Blest...great view from our room; enjoyed a 3 hour walk around the lake through rainforest to a huge waterfall with a beautiful reflection lake at the top. We were also fortunate to share this experience with one other couple, so lots of attention in the restaurant!Baca selengkapnya

  • Puerto Blest to Puerto Varas

    7 November 2017, Chili

    It was a relaxed start the next morning as we waited for the boat to arrive from Puerto Paneulo at 11.00am with adjoining passengers for a 3km bus ride past the Frias River to Puerto Alegre. It was a 20 minute boat cruise (Photo 1 to 3) over Lake Frias to Puerto Frias where we went through departure at Argentina customs before continuing by bus for about 1.5 hours to Puella, the first Chilean town (Photos 4 to 9). After lunch, we sailed 2 hours across Todos los Satos Lake with more beautiful waterfalls (Photo 10) arriving in Petrohue (Photo 11) and then a 1 hour bus trip to Puerto Varas.Baca selengkapnya

  • Puerto Varas to Chiloé Island

    9 November 2017, Chili

    The weather for our crossing/drive to Chiloe Island was overcast and turned to rain (Photo 1), but cleared up after we arrived into Castro. Photos 2 and 3 are of a local wooden church. Photos 4 to 7 are of a local village, Chonchi. Photo 8 is of a brown hooded gull which the island is named after from the native language. Photo 9 is a black necked swan.   • Chiloé Island

    10 November 2017, Chili

    We begin with a view from our room (Photo 1) before taking a day tour to Acho (Photos 2 to 12). Photo 9 is the stone foundations that the church was built on before concrete. Photos 6 to 8 are of the church built in mid 1880s. Photo 13 is black faced ibis from our room (they wake us up at sunrise every morning) and Photos 14 is sunset from our room.Baca selengkapnya

  • EcoCamp Fauna Walk

    15 November 2017, Chili

    Our first day activity was a 10km fauna walk from the ranger station. It was a very windy day and Photo 1 shows the wind blowing a waterfall back up. Photos 2 to 4 are of the walking track. After a steep climb we arrived at the rock paintings (Photo 5) similar to what we see in Australia. Photos 6 to 8 are at the rock painting lunch stop with views of the Torres del Paine Mountains. There were also many wild flowers, birds, beetle and Guanaco photo stops on the walk (Photos 9 to 29).   • EcoCamp Pingo Walk

    17 November 2017, Chili

    Today we awoke to a brillantly clear day and had booked ourselves in on the Pingo drive and walk. We had some great mountain views and as we had to go to the southern side of the park, it was good to see the mountains from another angle. The walk was lovely along a river valley ending at a waterfall with lots of wild flowers along the way. On the way back, we walked down to Lago Grey to see the iceburgs that had broken off the glacier further up.Baca selengkapnya
