  • Out exploring

    2. november 2017, Forente stater ⋅ ☁️ 17 °C

Woke up at 3.30am so after 4 hours of american TV I decided to head out and explore. Our hotel is around the corner from the Boston Public Library which is a beautiful building but it wasn't open yet so I am keen to go back and check it out (pardon the library pun). I then headed out to Dedham on the train where I found a free little library, a street piano, pumpkins galore, a whole foods and an LL Bean!! Rozzie will be jealous. Bek and mum arrive this afternoon... can't wait!Les mer

  • Cuppa tea time?

    3. november 2017, Forente stater ⋅ 🌙 11 °C

We did a hop on hop off tour of Boston today and spent a bit of time at the Boston Tea Party museum which included throwing crates of tea overboard and drinking hot tea to celebrate. We also went to Quincy markets for lunch and a Blue Man Group performance - loved it all.Les mer

  • Freedom Trail

    4. november 2017, Forente stater ⋅ ☀️ 9 °C

Bek and I walked the Freedom Trail from Boston Common the Bunker Hill, about 2.5 miles (4km). We journeyed through many significant sites in Boston's history including Paul Revere's house (he is very well revered in Boston) and the USS constution. My highlight was climbing the 294 steps of the Bunker Hill monument (I am so unfit) where the views across Boston were spectatular.Les mer

  • Let's go Bruins

    4. november 2017, Forente stater ⋅ 🌙 8 °C

We went to an NHL Ice Hockey game and it was insane! The stadium must have been close to capacity and it took us a good half hour to get inside beacuse only 1 gate was open due renovations. Once inside, it was so awesome. Boston Bruins vs Washington Capitals and the crowd was very boisterous and the play was intense. However, there was no flying V which is probably why Boston lost 2-3!Les mer

  • New York!

    5. november 2017, Forente stater ⋅ ☁️ 15 °C

Caught the train from Boston to NYC (hightlight was our giant cinnamon scrolls - we were the envy of the entire carriage). We arrived late afternoon and headed to Madison Square Garden (across the road from our hotel) for an NBL game - NY Knicks vs Indiana Pacers. Knicks came from behind to win 108-101! Very exciting 🏀 Apparently I am a mad sports fan now! Lauren would be proud.Les mer

  • Looking for Liz Lemon

    6. november 2017, Forente stater ⋅ ⛅ 18 °C

New York day 2 included 30 Rock (Tina Fey must have been at lunch), Radio City, the Guggenheim, and the Empire State Building at night. We went up at around 9pm and it was amazing. Despite a rainy cloudy day, it was so clear up there but absolutely freezing!Les mer

  • Ride through central park

    8. november 2017, Forente stater ⋅ ⛅ 7 °C

We went for a ride through central park but 3 soon became 2 when Rozzie's old sailing injuring flared up and ruled her out. Bek and I rode on and did the full loop around the park. It was overcast but still beautiful.Les mer

  • Brooklyn

    9. november 2017, Forente stater ⋅ ⛅ 11 °C

Bek and I walked over the Brooklyn Bridge and wandered around the river and a bit of the neighbourhood. It was lovely and much more chill compared with Manhattan. Great views back across to the island.Les mer

  • Philly

    10. november 2017, Forente stater ⋅ 🌙 -1 °C

We caught the train to Philly this morning and it is bloody freezing! We walked up the parkway to the Philadelphia Museum of Art and might have run up the stairs Rocky style. It was awesome! We walked back to the hotel via the river and popped into the Philadelphia free library.Les mer

  • Philadelphia

    11. november 2017, Forente stater ⋅ ☀️ 2 °C

We saw heaps on day 2 of Phily including the liberty bell, the national constitution centre, independence hall, and the Franklin institute science museum. Learnt a lot about the early days of democracy in America when Philadelphia was the capital before DC existed from 1790-1800. Phily also has a lot of love for Benji Franklin and now so do we!Les mer

  • Library of Congress

    14. november 2017, Forente stater ⋅ ☁️ 8 °C

Wow! It was amazing and we only got to spend a short amount of time there before it closed. The reading room was awesome and their collection size is... 16 million books and 120 million other items! It is definately the library of record for the US if not the world. We also got a personal tour from Rod, a library docent who was clearly about to leave for the day but insisted on giving us the highlights tour (I think because he loved Aussies and Bek told him I was a librarian!). The library of Congress holds one of only 3 copies of the Gutenberg Bible that is both complete, and printed in vellum (made from calf skin) from 1455. A pretty amazing place for a librarian to visit!Les mer

  • Hitting the road

    15. november 2017, Forente stater ⋅ ⛅ 5 °C

We hired a car in DC and hit the road heading south through Virginia. We spent the night in Blacksberg which is a University town and we found a delightful diner called Lefties that had some delicious craft beers that they brew on site. We also went to the movies and saw Orient Express and ate a crazy amount of american candy!Les mer
