Matera - Europ. Kulturhauptstadt 2019

In Apulien, etwa 40 km im bergigen Hinterland von Bari an der Adriaküste entfernt, liegt eine verzauberte Stadt, die uns in ihren Bann gezogen hat. In der historischen Altstadt sind fast alle Häuser im hinteren Bereich als Höhlen in den Berg gebaut und schon seit über 1000 Jahren mit einem Labyrinth aus Treppen und Wasserleitungen verbunden. Gemeinschaftliche Kühlkeller, Zisternen und Weinkeller waren damals selbstverständlich. Mir gefällt besonders gut, dass sich diese finanziell arme süditalienische Stadt jetzt internationale Aufmerksamkeit verschaffen konnte und einen nachhaltigen Tourismus aufbaut unter dem Motto „Open Future“.
