      Calakmul

      February 21 in Mexico ⋅ ☀️ 16 °C

Today in calakmul we explored these old temples that the Mayans lived in 2000 years ago. We also climbed some which was cool but some idiots had wrote there name on a pillar and some guy had a drone and that is a crime and the cops were there and he probably got killed. The temples were very tall and the people that built them were probably enslaved or some say it was there "job" but if they had a choice it would probably be get killed or work. Now we are in the car and we are heading to backlar to have some relaxing. (By Darragh)

Thanks Darragh for your great review which may need some fact checking!

We woke up early in our tents half frozen....I don't think anyone got much sleep it was so cold! We drove 1.5hrs into the park....this was our chance to maybe see elusive jaguars which are known to roam the area!! Well unfortunately the Mayan Train, a new train which is being built across three states, has made its mark on Calakmul. The site was alive with construction workers, unless jaguars are attracted to hi vis we wouldn't be seeing them! The new train plans to put Calakmul on the map!! It was hectic with construction around the site but only saw about 30 other people in the ruins. The ruins were spectacular and unlike Chichen Itza which is cleared of vegetation around most ruins Calakmul is enveloped by the jungle! We really enjoyed ourselves and saw lots of wildlife!!
