A day in Hamburg

Today we left early in the morning, driving towards Hamburg, my favourite big city in Germany. As it was a beautiful, sunny day, we got ourselves two of the free tickets to go upstairs to the terrace of the Elbphilarmonica. It was, as usual, an amazing view over the Elbe river. For lunch, we sat down in my favourite café in Hamburg and got ourselves a treat. With full stomachs, we walked through the warehouse district and to the Dom of Hamburg which is kind of a fair that takes place 4 times a year, having loads of rollercoasters, shooting galleries and candy shops to spent your money on. We had to get to our hotel in Büsum, so we cut our time in Hamburg short and drove on.Baca lagi

BossHoss concert

In the summer of 2018, I dated a guy called Henning who was working for Volkswagen in Baunatal. When they announced to have a concert by BossHoss on their company premises, Henning invited me to go with him. Tbh, I didn't really care that much about the band, but for free - I'll take it! So I went with him and really enjoyed the show and fireworks after the concert.Baca lagi

Bestie Quick-Trip Pengembara
At the Warehouse District

The next morning, we left to visit the old Warehouse District (or German Speicherstadt) and the Elbphilarmonica before taking the train back home.
The Elphi has got a very nice charm to itself, and I can't really describe it.
It should look very weird, so new and shine between all these old brick houses. But somehow, it perfectly fits in. And I love it.
Because it has such a prominent location, the government said, they have to make it for the community, i.e. make a tourist attraction out of it. And they did. You can just get yourself a free ticket (the tickets are only there to control the tourist masses) and then "go upstairs" to get the best view over the town. It amazes me each and every time I get up there again.
We also found our new favourite café (outside Göttingen), the Campus Suite right next to the Elphi. They have super tasty sandwiches there. And comfy seats. And the best hot cocoa to get you warm before the train ride home.Baca lagi

Bestie Quick-Trip Pengembara
Let the weekend begin!

My best friend and I have known each other since we've been 3 years old and met in kinder garden. Since then, our passion for travelling and taking pictures has evolved and stabilized its way into our lives. Honestly, I love travelling on my own, but with Sina around, there was a great photographer with me, as well as a great photo model. So, I had to exploit her being with me - which I did.
After a 4-hour-long train ride to Hamburg, we checked into our A&O hostel where we'd stay over the weekend. Luckily, it was right at the Reeperbahn, so we were basically right in the middle of downtown. At the Reeperbahn are a lot of bars, clubs and theatres. In one of the ladder, we would watch a musical tonight. To be more precise, we went to Heiße Ecke (Hot Corner) at the Schmitz Tivoli Theatre. I've been to the musical before with my colleagues, as I get a generous discount on it as a travel agent. But it was so funny, that I wanted to share the experience with my best friend. And the show was great and funny and just the right thing to start our weekend with.
After it ended, we decided to head to the Hamburger Dom, which is kind of a fair that happens 4x a year for several weeks. Basically, it's a place where you can spend a lot of money for short-lived entertainment. As we're both no fans of shooting ranges or rollercoasters (at least at the fair), we just walked around a bit and got my sister a gingerbread heart in the end.Baca lagi

Is a single day in Mallorca enough?

My first ever business trip was to Mallorca. My bosses saw an offer from Alltours, inviting travel agents for a day trip to Mallorca. It would only cost €30 and my time. So, they put me on the list and I had to get to Düsseldorf - my favourite airport (not). As the train route between Göttingen and Düsseldorf is rather not existent, and my flight leaving at 7am, I had to get the last train in Göttingen at 11pm. I arrived in Düsseldorf at 2am and had another three hours until the other group members would meet me at the Check-in. I couldn't sleep at the airport at all, so as you can tell, when Check-in time finally come, I was exhausted and my eyes tiny. We checked-in, got through security and boarded punctually. The plane took off and I immediately fell asleep. After about 2 hours, the silence was over, and I had to enter the bus that would drive us around the island today. Our first hotel we visited was directly in Palma de Mallorca and had a great breakfast. With a bit of energy going into my body, I could follow the others around the hotel, but when it was time to get into the bus again, to drive to the next hotel, I was so sleepy. And I fell asleep asap, only waking for the lunch at the hotel in Cala Millor. After the tour there, we had 5 mins to look at the grey sky and beach. Then we drove back to Peguera, but I wanted to sleep instead of looking outside the window, and actually see something from the island. The last hotel gave us proper dinner and a tour yet again. Then it was time to go back to the airport, fly home and take the three trains back to Göttingen.
So all in all, I didn't see anything at all from the island but three hotels (the names of them I already forgot). And at least I didn't need to be hungry. I was just tired. All day. So in conclusion: No, I wouldn't recommend doing this.

Today was my last day - for real. It was actually very sad to say goodbye to my new-found freedom and adventurism. I think, that was the moment I got bit by the actual travel bug. Since then, I always wanted to travel more and more and more...

Today should have been my last day in Albufeira, and I was ready to go. But because of the Air Berlin crisis (and in the end downfall) my flight was cancelled, so that I had to take a flight the next day. Because of that, I got a free "jolly" day and could enjoy the sun some more. So I went out exploring the gruff coastline of Albufeira again.Baca lagi

Today I just explored a bit more of the area. I went to the beach, although it was way too cold to actually go swimming. But I managed to use a little sunscreen. In the afternoon, I walked around Albufeira and discovered a little art gallery. The topic was "Wasted Xmas". Every piece of art was made out of rubbish and had Xmas screaming all over them. I got into talking with the gallerist, and he could tell me a couple of interesting stories about the artists.Baca lagi

Midnight stars

Remember the two guys from the first night, at the restaurant? I went there again and chatted about 2hrs with them. One of the guys became to like me and asked me if I would like to meet him. Naive as I was, I said yes, and so he picked me up the next night. We drove into the hinterland of Albufeira and my mind was churning. Was it really a good idea to leave my safe hotel room for a stranger? In a country I don't know? In the night? However, here I was, and I was determined to only think the best of him. As he stopped the car, we were in the middle of nowhere, and he asked me to climb with him through bushes and rocks. I did so and my innocent heart didn't get disappointed. I found myself at a small beach, surrounded by three walls of coastal rocks and the midnight blue sky and sea in front and above me. It was amazing. He offered me a seat on his towel and we had a nice time up until he wanted me from me than just words. I tried to let him down gently, afraid that he'd leave me in the middle of nowhere. But he was quite the Gentleman, accepted my No and drove me safely back to my hotel. I'll never forget how much fear I felt in these moments and how good it was, to only think good of people.Baca lagi

To the Border of Spain

Today I was on a tour through Faro, Olhao, Tavira, Cacela Velha and Vila Real de Santo António. In Faro were loads of orange trees. In Olhao was a nice little fair. In Tavira I took great pics of boats. In Vila Real de Santo António could I throw a stone across the river to Spain and listened to Nico Santos. But my favourite place of the whole of Portugal would be Cacela Velha. This tiny village on top of the hill had something so eerily calming to it, that I don't understand it. There was a church as small as the village, radiating from calmness. It was the most adorable place I've ever been to.Baca lagi

A sickening Cruise

The harbour of Albufeira is small but lovely and has boats starting to the West from there. I entered one of them, wanting to see the famous coastline of the Algarve. It was so windy that over 50% of the passengers on board got sick, and we had to turn around early. The whole time, I felt like throwing up as well, but somehow managed to contain myself. The reward was that I got my money for the cruise back (as an apology from the owners). I was very much pleased with this, as I have learned one vital thing on that cruise: Cristiano Ronaldo used to own a villa in Benagil... :DBaca lagi

The Most South-Western Point of Europe

Today I have booked myself on a tour to Lagos, Portimao, Ponta da Piedade and the most south-western point of Europe - Sagres.
The city of Lagos had a nice little market to buy fruits, fish and meat as well as clothes. I bought myself a red camel-hair poncho (which I would have only used twice up till 2023) and was quite happy when we exited the city and went in to nature. The Ponta da Piedade is a rock formation looking like a high heel and is quite pleasing to look at. After a quick stop there, our tour went on to Sagres, a little village we didn't really get to see because we were hunting the most south-western part of Europe. Arriving there, it was very windy, cold and the spray of the waves hundreds of feet below, covered me in saltwater.Baca lagi

The hinterland of the Algarve

The next day, I've booked myself on a tour around the hinterland of the Algarve region. They picked me up at the hotel and off we went to Alte and the surrounding villages. We've learned a lot about basket weaving, cork making processes and the sheer beauty of the wilderness that not so many tourists laid their hands on. After getting back, I strolled around the beach and enjoyed it all by myself.Baca lagi

Beauty at the atlantic ocean

I wanted to travel, but I had nobody to go with me. So I decided to travel on my own. But this was completely new. I've never travelled without my parents. As I just started my training as a travel agent in November, I thought, this would be just the right challenge for me. So I took off with Air Berlin to go to Albufeira, Portugal. I had a nice hotel directly at the beach with breakfast and a balcony room. I left my luggage in my room and went out to explore. Immediately, I met a British guy to exchange experiences with. Quite a nice little chat. When I entered the city centre of Albufeira, there weren't a lot of tourists around. I mean, who else would take their holidays right before Xmas? Therefore, I had the city pretty much to myself and could enjoy an extra-long chat with two guys at a restaurant. They started talking to me when I was just walking down the street, inviting me into the restaurant. I didn't end up going inside, but it was a nice chat anyway.Baca lagi
