    13. maj 2024, Forenede Stater ⋅ ☁️ 66 °F

We left Kenny and Sharon’s and had a nice cruise down the James River… but then were greeted with holy rollers in Chesapeake Bay. The animals were not happy! The humans were a little stressed too. We stopped at Messick Point boat ramp to walk Moki and had dinner while tied to the dock. There’s a big open field here which is really nice. After dinner we moved a stone’s throw around the corner from the ramp. Within minutes (like 5) several emergency vehicles arrived. While we were anchoring someone drove their SUV down the ramp. Good thing we moved when we did! Word of mouth is pretty good here as the locals arrived in-mass. SUV has been pulled and most of the commotion is over. Pretty sunset tonight but missed the best part I’m sure with all the excitement.Læs mere

  • Urbanna

    14. maj 2024, Forenede Stater ⋅ ☁️ 72 °F

We are in Urbanna at URBBY marina for a few days waiting on the weather. It’s very windy on the bay and raining atm. Pretty gloomy! Urbanna is a small town on the Rappahannock River. The down town is cute and walkable from the marina. There’s a lot of history here and charming old homes. Some of the structures date back to the 1600s. We’ve been getting out to explore between drops but I’m afraid this evenings pup walk is going to be wet.. no break in sight. All good. Moki loves walking in the rain. Urbanna BTW means City of Anne and is in honor of England’s Queen Anne.Læs mere

Still windy and spit rain a good portion of the day. We considered leaving in the morning but have decided to hole up one more day. Did allot of exploring today. James worked on the head fan. Successfully I might add. BTW our overall miles so far are 1779. Going to be celebrating another milestone soon.Læs mere

  • Welcome to Maryland!! Point Lookout

    17. maj 2024, Forenede Stater ⋅ ☁️ 66 °F

After a rather sporty ride up Chesapeake Bay we are now at anchor inside the cove at Point Lookout State Park. Nice protection from the wind and kayak access to shore. Moki and I did a long walk this afternoon before the park closed visiting the lighthouse, old rail station/buoy depot, Fort Lincoln, and POW encampment. It’s currently sprinkling. Steaks are on the grill. The animals are content. Life is good. Secchi at anchor 1.9 in 2m. Nice seagrass on the bottom.Læs mere

  • Good Morning!

    18. maj 2024, Forenede Stater ⋅ ☁️ 61 °F

Nice line of rain came through this morning. Really liking our rain fly. I slept in with the berth hatch open and stayed nice and dry. Our first trip to shore was rainy but it stopped on our way back to the boat. Moki loves walking in the rain. Hops around like a 🦘 kangaroo. We’re planning a slow departure from here later this morning. This was a great spot!Læs mere

  • Sandy Point State Park

    18. maj 2024, Forenede Stater ⋅ ☁️ 63 °F

Our highest mileage day at 84 got us to this State Park at almost 3pm. We planned to stop at another site but 😱 No dogs! This park was the goal anyways as I am jumping ship tomorrow for a few days. Have a work thing. This park has 6 nice day docks and 22 ramp lanes all in a protected cove which we will anchor in tonight. There’s also a Marina store and fuel dock. It’s raining again but our initial walkabout led us to some interpretive signage and the Sandy Point Mansion… which was originally a tobacco plantation. There’s also an old lighthouse visible from the beach which we found on our last stroll of the day.Læs mere

Today we traveled 40 miles dropping anchor with 2001 trip miles logged… another milestone! 👏👏. We are at the Sassafras Natural Resources Management Area which has bluffs, beach areas and trails. The latter however is very open and hot 🥵. The water temps are warm enough that I went for my first swim since leaving Florida. Not sure what the temp was but it was refreshing.Læs mere

  • Chesapeake City

    25. maj 2024, Forenede Stater ⋅ ☁️ 79 °F

Short cruise today to Chesapeake City where we are tied up at the free dock…. Although we paid the nominal fee for power and water. Chesapeake City is a cute little town that really comes alive around noon. Lots of boats! And allot of them cigarette boats! There’s a restaurant/bar in this basin that’s a floating bar where you dock and they serve you at the boat. It’s popular with boats crammed in all over. We’ve enjoyed walking around town and looking at the old homes. Real pretty park adjacent to dock with lots of shade trees and pretty flowers. And ice cream!🍦 …Læs mere

We left Chesapeake City Maryland this morning and side tripped up to Philadelphia navigating into Delaware, New Jersey and Pennsylvania (55 miles). We are now tied up at Pier 3 Marina, a stones throw from the Benjamin Franklin Bridge (I-676) and just a few blocks from the Liberty Bell 🔔. It’s hot now so we’ll get out and explore later. Tomorrow rain is predicted most of the day. Which is fine. Moki and I like to walk in the rain 🌧️.Læs mere

  • Philadelphia

    26. maj 2024, Forenede Stater ⋅ ☁️ 84 °F

We’re enjoying our spot at the end of the marina. Good for site seeing out into the river but definitely a little rolly. Some strong current here with a 6.5’ tide. It was pretty hot today so we didn’t venture far but we discovered some cool stuff. The Cherry St. Pier has art vendors, concession food and seating on the nicely landscaped pier. We also strolled over to the historic area and walked Elfreth’s Alley. And finally we stumbled upon Spruce Street Harbor Park which has lots of activity and some old ships. Topped off the evening with some ice cream 🍦. Could be a habit forming.Læs mere

  • Memorial Day in Philly

    27. maj 2024, Forenede Stater ⋅ ☁️ 75 °F

We headed out early today to find the Liberty Bell. It was a great morning for exploring with overcast skies. Ran into a park ranger after finding the bell and he turned us on to some additional sites that are pup friendly. We hit Washington Square, 5th Ave with lots of historical buildings and interpretive signs, the Rose Garden, Vietnam Memorial Park and then back on the Riverwalk to the boat. We made it back to the boat ready for lunch so while the pets rested James and I went out to Market Street for an authentic Philly cheese steak. It’s raining now. Everyone is napping. We really like this marina. It could use some love but It’s small, everyone is friendly and in a great location. The harbormaster Tyler invited us to stay an extra night (leaving Wednesday). We’re seriously considering. Will give the winds a chance to settle a bit. Tomorrow’s forecast isn’t horrible but it isn’t great either.Læs mere

  • Philly day 3

    28. maj 2024, Forenede Stater ⋅ ☀️ 79 °F

Today was a busy work day.. after being away at a meeting last week and then a long weekend I had much to do. I should mention how well Starlink is working for me. AND the awesome custom made 3D printed mount my daughter Sara made. Starlink was a gift from my father-in-law right before he passed. I had a good day writing and have a manuscript ready to submit. If my boss is tuning in she’ll be very happy to hear that! After work, Moki and I set out to walk the bridge we’ve been staring at for days 👊 … done! Tonight’s sunset was spectacular. Only caught the top of it but the color was incredible! We are heading back onto the loop tomorrow. This has been a great side trip.Læs mere

  • Welcome to Delaware!

    29. maj 2024, Forenede Stater ⋅ ☁️ 66 °F

Or should I say back to Delaware. Our last encounter in this state was only about 30 minutes. But tonight we’re here for duration. Actually planned to fuel up in Delaware City but the pump wasn’t working so we backtracked on the C&D canal to Summit North Marina after stopping at the Delaware City free dock for a walkabout. We had also planned to anchor out tonight but it was late in the afternoon and getting ready to rain so we decided to just get a slip. This marina is very big with thirteen sets of docks extending from a single walkway. Most of the big boats are closest to shore. We asked for a bow in port tie away from the big boats so wouldn’t feel closed in and the guy here (actually the security guard) said pick any one you like and just call me when you find it. So we are halfway down the marina on dock G (A closest to shore). I kid you not it’s a five minute walk to land. And there are six more sets of docks beyond us. But hey steps are good 👍. Moki and I have done two walks on the Castle C&D trail going in different directions. Takes a while to get to the pretty stuff but it runs thru a preserve which is nice. Tomorrow we’ll tackle Delaware Bay.Læs mere

  • Cedar Swamp Wildlife Area

    30. maj 2024, Forenede Stater ⋅ ☀️ 72 °F

We didn’t leave the dock on the C&D until 2pm waiting for the wind to die down a bit in Delaware Bay. Only covered 22 miles putting us at the Collins Beach boat ramp which is just off the bay in a creek within the Wildlife Area on the Delaware side. There’s allot of current here and our first docking for the pup walk didn’t go as planned … a gel coat ding 😣. Better round two. There are commercial boats at anchor here and we quickly figured out they’re in the deep water so we are now part of their pack (no one’s onboard). We are surrounded by tall grass which sounds pretty cool when the wind blows. Some hull slap in store for tonight but no rollers. Oh and flies. Lots of flies! Screens are up. All good!

  • Welcome to New Jersey!

    31. maj 2024, Forenede Stater ⋅ ☀️ 70 °F

Another state we already briefly cruised thru on our way to Philly…. Today was a pretty ok day for tackling Delaware Bay as seen by all the Nebo Loopers out there tackling it with us. We left our anchorage early and came thru the ICW inlet in Cape May NJ around noon. Our first stop was a quick lunch break right off the Cape May Lost Fishermen’s Memorial. Pretty somber park but a nice tribute to those lost at sea. We then made our way to Sunrise Lake Park on the shore of Wildwood Crest. One of several dry towns in NJ. Very cute with allot of architectural flair. The houses and buildings all have a Four Square or Cape Cod style historic vibe but seem to be newly built. The park has a kayak landing so Moki and I did our normal recon. Winds picked up for our kayak back to the boat. We are now at anchor for the night away from shore which is remarkably calmer. Another looper also at anchor nearby. Secchi 1.0 in 3.4MLæs mere

  • Little Sheepshead Creek

    1. juni 2024, Forenede Stater ⋅ ☀️ 77 °F

We had a long day cruising thru the New Jerseys ICW. All of the big boats were running outside and we know why… there are spots on the ICW that are only 2 foot deep at low tide. Also the ICW twists and turns allot and has lots of Slow Speed No Wake Zones… Although we didn’t see that many boats actually slow down. It is interesting how the environment changes as we travel. Here it’s all grass. Short grass. Can see a long ways. But not many good anchorages for getting Moki to shore. Tonight we are anchored off a dirt ramp up a small creek. Rutgers maintains a weather station across the road and their Marine Field Station is at the end of the road. From here we can see the beach dunes 2 miles away as a bird flies. 66 miles today.Læs mere
