Saqsaywaman (or as it is pronounced- sexy woman) was part of the gateway to Cusco during Inca times. It was part of a series of various stations enroute to Cusco, which acted as checkpoints / customs points to regulate the number of people admitted to Cusco at any given time, and also to ensure animals did not enter the city either.
