The bugs up here are awful. Sleeping in the truck would have worked well but I didn't have a good enough cushion to lay on. Like that inflatable insulated ground roll I have in Richmond. D'oh. This morning the temp was in the low 50s, overcast, and there was a gusty wind. Perfect conditions for hiking and keeping bugs down. Then the drizzle started. I'm not high maintenance or anything but I've had enough. Hiking trip becomes road trip. I'm going to see what Caribou looks like, then drive through more of the North Maine Woods.Read more

Stuck in Masardis, ME. There's emergency equipment and a band in the middle of the street. Ohhhh, someone is now playing taps. I was going to mock them for feeling free to close down the main street any time they feel in a town of 500.Read more

Presque Isle

Presque Isle is a regular little town. The road out to caribou is beautiful. It's wide open rolling hilltops and well kept houses. Reminds me of Champlain Valley.
