GoYolo in Latin America

A digital nomad adventure in Latin America. Les mer
  • Isla Colon, Bocas del Toro

    26. juli 2021, Panama ⋅ 🌧 25 °C

Five days on the island. Four days of rain and Dilay most of the time in bed because she is not feeling well 🤷‍♂️ that’s life 😀

We stayed at Punta Caracol Acqua Lodge which was super nice as the bungalow was build on the water. On the last day the water cleared up and we saw mantra rays and lots of other fish right from our bungalow.

One day we took the water taxi to get to town to meet Amit from Punta Mona again for a coffee. He is one of the most friendly and kind person I know 😊

  • Cooking class @ Lunatico

    6. august 2021, Colombia ⋅ ⛅ 30 °C

One thing I do in every country is a cooking class. Today I’ve learned to cook these courses:

    First courses:
    - Seabass Ceviche with banana emulsion and lemongrass.
    - Mote de queso (Soup)

    Main course:
    - Posta negra cartagenera (Black Topside beef) + coconut rice + plantains in temptation + avocado ají.

    Dessert:
    - Tree tomato in syrup.

Something that really surprised me was that every course was cooked somehow with sugar cane 😅 we cooked the rise with coconut milk and sugar cane, we added lots of sugar cane to the gravy and we even cooked the plantains (Cooking Banana) in Kola Roman which is like a cherry soda 🤷‍♂️

But I have to say it tasted amazing and one of the best dishes I had so far while traveling.

  • Unexpected Airbnb Upgrade

    11. august 2021, Colombia ⋅ ⛅ 28 °C

My last Airbnb was super nice except that it has some mold right above the bed and the AC is also full of mold. So I wrote my host telling him that I’m going to move on the weekend and I hope he’ll give me a refund for the three weeks that I’m not going to stay in the Airbnb.

He can’t give me a refund but he has also another Airbnb in the same building which is newly renovated and I can stay there without additional cost. In turns out it’s a three story apartment which is pretty nice so I have a living room in the basement, I sleep in the first floor bedroom and my office is now in on the second floor 😎

I even have a roommate. I call him Jerry 😂

  • Bazurto Market & Cooking Class #2

    14. august 2021, Colombia ⋅ ☁️ 28 °C

Because I really enjoyed the cooking course I took another one 😅 this time we also went to the famous Bazurto market. Without knowing anything about this market it was a surprise 😀

This market is like another world. Crazy. Lots of people. Lots of different smells and just chaos! However it seemed to me that they have some sort of secret organization going on at this place 🤷‍♂️

After we bought our stuff for our dishes we drove back to the cooking studio and cooked again four very delicious meals:

    First courses:
    - Shrimps and snails cocktail.
    - Carimañolas.
    Main course:
    - Red snapper in coconut sauce + coconut rice + patacones.
    Dessert:
    -Enyucado cake

  • Journey Hostel

    10. september 2021, Colombia ⋅ ⛅ 31 °C

This was by far one of the best hostels I’ve been so far. In terms of location 🤩 and the vibe of the hostel. The people are amazing and you feel welcome from the beginning when you enter the hostel. Every evening they also have a family dinner.

I could only stay there over the weekend though because the internet was not good enough to work from here otherwise I would have spend more time here. The view is just awesome, it’s not so super hot and there are not as many mosquitoes here as on the beach.

  • Vecino Coliving, Medellin

    18. september 2021, Colombia ⋅ 🌧 23 °C

Arriving in Medellin was special. Driving from the Airport to the city I have already felt that this is going to be a really cool city. Situated inside a valley surrounded by green mountains and the climate is year round always the same. They also call it "city of eternal spring“.

I’m staying in a coliving/coworking Airbnb which is pretty cool. The people are from all around the world and we even got live music from Enrique every night 😀

  • Comuna 13 Tour

    25. september 2021, Colombia ⋅ ☀️ 25 °C

Over the past ten years, Comuna 13 has undergone a complete transformation. Before it was one of the most dangerous neighborhoods in South America due to gang violence, police raids, cartels and illegal drug trafficking.

These days, Comuna 13 is associated with graffiti, street art performances and walking tours. New infrastructure, including a metro cable and six outdoor escalators 😎 transformed Comuna 13 to a very safe neighborhood.

It was really strange walking through that neighborhood. Before I only knew about that place from the Netflix documentary Narcos. They showed us pictures from a couple of years ago with policemen everywhere and how dangerous it was. To see this transformation and what they did to transform a whole neighborhood was really cool.
