🏝️ Achmelvich Beach – Zoom Takes Flight

The road to Achmelvich Beach is a ribbon of bends, blind summits, and the occasional sheep who thinks it owns right of way. After weaving Vanilla along the track, the reward appeared: a stretch of white sand so bright it looked bleached by the gods, wrapped around a bay of water that couldn’t decide if it wanted to be turquoise, jade, or sapphire.

That was Zoom’s cue.

🚁 Launch:
I sent my DJI Mini 4 Pro (aka Zoom) up into the salty air. Instantly the view widened: the beach arced below like a crescent moon, the headlands pushed out into the Atlantic, and the sea shimmered like glass under broken sunlight.

🌊 The perspective:
From above, Achmelvich doesn’t look like it belongs in Scotland. It’s more Caribbean-meets-Highlands: dazzling white sand hugged by rugged grey rocks, with hills rolling into the horizon. Zoom skimmed along the coastline, catching frothy breakers smacking into the rocks, then pulled back for wide sweeps that made the whole bay glow.

📸 Favourite shots from Zoom:
• A sweeping pano capturing the whole bay like a postcard nobody would believe.
• A low pass tracing the surf where the water turns from deep blue to bright aqua.
• A cinematic orbit around the rocky headland, gulls flitting into frame like they’d been hired extras.

✨ The feeling:
Standing there with the controller, I couldn’t help but grin. Achmelvich from the ground is stunning. From the air with Zoom, it’s otherworldly. A little drone, a big landscape, and memories bottled in pixels and propellers.

Scotland has plenty of wild drama, but Achmelvich is pure mischief: a Highland bay pretending to be the Bahamas, waiting for a drone pilot to prove it.Read more
