Vanilla and I rolled into Achmelvich and almost did a double-take. White sand? Check. Water so blue it looked Photoshopped? Double check. Somewhere between the chip shop and the campsite I realised: this is the Scottish Caribbean, the myth made real.

Standing on the headland, the bay shimmered like a postcard from Antigua. The only difference was the soundtrack—gulls, waves, and the occasional shout of a paddle-boarder rather than steel drums.

I wandered down with fish and chips in hand, toes sinking into sand so soft it squeaked. The sea looked inviting—glowing turquoise, rippling gently—but the reality check came fast.
