🏔️ Bealach na Bà – The Pass of the Cattle

Today I tackled the legendary Bealach na Bà, one of Scotland’s most famous roads. It’s a winding single-track pass that climbs steeply through the Applecross mountains, often compared to an Alpine route – but with sheep instead of skiers.

The road twisted and turned with hairpins that kept Vanilla’s steering busy, and the climbs felt endless. This is the kind of drive where you really appreciate how small Scotland makes you feel.

🌫️ The only downside? Visibility was really poor when I did it. Low cloud and mist rolled across the mountains, so instead of jaw-dropping views, I was treated to a moody, grey cloak of Highland atmosphere. The road felt almost other-worldly, like driving through the clouds themselves.

Even though the grand panoramas were hidden, there was something dramatic about not seeing too far ahead – each bend revealed a surprise, each summit hinted at more. It felt less like sightseeing and more like an adventure into the unknown.

Would I do it again? Absolutely. Next time, I’ll hope for clear skies so I can finally see those famous views stretching out over the sea to Skye. But even in the mist, Bealach na Bà was unforgettable.
