After more than four weeks wandering across Europe, Vanilla finally stopped for a well-earned drink at a familiar Staffordshire fuel station.

No Alpine passes.

No Croatian coastline.

No Swiss mountain tunnels.

No Dutch football stadiums.

Just the comforting sight of the A34, a diesel pump, and the knowledge that the adventure had come full circle.

34.63 litres of diesel disappeared into the tank at £1.799 per litre, costing £62.30.

It wasn’t the cheapest fuel of the trip.

It wasn’t the most expensive.

But it might have been the most satisfying.

Because this refill wasn’t buying fuel for the journey ahead.

It was marking the successful completion of one behind me.

Twelve countries.

Thousands of miles.

Hundreds of photographs.

Countless memories.

And one faithful grey campervan called Vanilla that never missed a beat.

The European Drift may have ended, but as every traveller knows, the next adventure starts the moment you begin planning it.
