Warm up at the Geierwand via ferrata

We started our one week „active“ holidays with a little climbing exercise near the entrance to Oetz Valley. The Geierwand via ferrata is some 400m long, an intermediate C most of the time and offers some views of the Inn Valley. The hike down is a bit tricky though.
Afterwards, we drove to our little holiday apartment in Habichen where we had booked in for the first 2 nights. In the afternoon, we walked to idyllic Priburg Lake. On the way, we passed River Oetz which is pretty wild at that point. Some crazy people did kayaking there - definitely fun to watch!Read more

Above the clouds

For my birthday, we chose a nice hike starting directly behind our apartment. Soon, we were above the clouds and enjoyed some great views. We passed the „Old Bielefeld Hut“ on the way to a more alpine terrain. Nothing too difficult, but we enjoyed being in the mountains!
On the way down, we stopped at „New Bielefeld Hut“ for lunch and a beer. All in all, we hiked some 2000 metres up and down again on this tour while covering a distance of about 20km.
Back home, we cooked a simple dinner and had a glass of wine to cheers to another year full of fun and adventure.Read more

Glacier views

Next day: a hike near Obergurgl. We wanted to hike at least once above 3000m on this trip. So we decided to climb „Hangerer“ with 3021m. The hike was relatively easy. First, we had to leave the famous ski resort behind. Then, we entered a pretty remote area. The climb itself wasn’t too difficult, but it was great fun. No one else was around, we had the mountain to ourselves. Views were just stunning. And as the wind was calm, we could even enjoy lunch at the top without freezing.
Back at the car, we drove passed „Timmelsjoch“ to enter Italy where we booked another apartment near Meran for the next 3 nights.Read more

Meran

The weather forecast looked bad for today, so we had planned a quiet one without any hikes. But as the weather in the mountains is unpredictable, it turned out to be really sunny. However, we still followed our plan to visit Meran. To get there, we took a beautiful walking pass along the valley, passing vineyards and countless apple orchards. We were definitely below the age average on this path 😂
Meran is a touristy, but nice town. Impressive villas, surrounded by mountains, a river… we had a small lunch in one of the million cafés before taking the bus to Parcines, a little mountain village where we had a stroll around. From here, we walked back to our apartment in Rabland to have dinner and a glass of wine on our balcony.Read more

Hiking in the Texel Mountains

We had a longer tour in the Texel Mountains planned for today, so we got up early. We started our hike at „Birkenwald“ restaurant and followed some easy forest trails first. On the way, we passed many farms and met lots of friendly animals like goats, sheep, cows, horses, rabbits, ducks and dogs. After „Hochganghaus“, we climbed up to a more alpine terrain above 2400m. There‘s some lakes in between the mountains, quite nice actually. From here, our goal was to climb mount Tschigat with its 3000m. We jumped from rock to rock and had to hike up a tricky chimney. On the last part, it was definitely more climbing than hiking. Unfortunately, the clouds blocked our view once we had reached the summit. However, on the way down, the sun came out again. We stopped at „Lodner Haus“ for a snack and a beer before hiking down a beautiful valley back to our car. All in all, a fun and remote tour of about 2200m of elevation gain and 24km.Read more

Vertical adventures

On our last day in Italy, we decided to go climbing. There’s a climbing park in Parcines, so only a few kilometres away from our apartment. We were the only ones in the park, so we could choose any route at any time. However, the grades seemed to be a little weird sometimes and reminded us of grading in the „Kaiser“ (with more hooks though…). Or maybe, we are just out of shape 😉
After climbing, we headed to our next destination: Nauders. On the way, we stopped for our October swim in Haider Lake and had some pizza before leaving Italy.
Here in Nauders, we are staying in a really nice apartment, big enough to hide in different rooms.Read more

End-of-summer hike

The good thing about staying in the mountains is that you can start your hike directly from your door. Today, we hiked up a valley and did a little round along the mountains East of Nauders. Nothing spectacular, but we enjoyed being out in nature.
At the top, it was really cold and windy, you can feel summer is over here.
Back in the valley, we walked around in Nauders for a bit, but as the sun had set behind the mountains already, we decided to just cook dinner in our apartment.Read more

Final climbing day

Our holidays are almost over already. On the way back home, we stopped in Imst to do some final climbing for the season on the „Putzen“ rocks and in Munich for a bbq with friends.
