    Burgos

    We arrived in Burgos around 11am - had a little wander, a tea break and a visit to the Oficina de Correos to post some stuff to Santiago.

    First sello at the Cathedral, then we were on our way.

    Boadilla del Camino

    We left Hontanas at 6.15am and walked about 28kms to Boadilla. We're staying in the fantastic En el Camino albergue, one of our favourites from last time.

    It's pretty hot, but we managed fine. We stopped for breaks in Castrojeriz and Itero de la vega.Meer informatie

    Leon - another train journey

    We enjoyed our rest day in Leon - we checked into Hotel Real Colegiata San Isidoro (very nice, great breakfast), did our laundry and wandered around the old town. We had FANTASTIC pizza at Pizzeria la Competencia - highly recommended!

    We're at the train station now, waiting for the train to Oviedo. We've opted for a slow train that meanders along a scenic route. It seems to follow parts of the Camino del Salvador.    Meer informatie

    Oviedo

    The train journey to Oviedo was great. Not recommended for anyone who suffers from vertigo, but the views of the mountains were spectacular.

    We picked up our pilgrim passports and took what turned out to be a very long walk around the city. We're all set for our first day of walking on this Camino.Meer informatie

    Quick post as I'm in bed with a horrible tummy bug. Not sure if I'll be able to walk tomorrow - we'll see.

    Beautiful walk today in the countryside, with a few little hills. Tomorrow's walk is a lot more challenging.Meer informatie

    Still in Salas

    My tummy bug took a turn for worse yesterday, so I've been in bed for 24 hours. Damian got me some medication, but the best i can hope for is to be well enough to take a bus or taxi tomorrow. This is starting to feel like 'the Camino that wasn't'.

    Tineo

    We took a taxi to the health centre in Tineo this morning. I was seen very quickly and told to keep doing what I'm doing. I might be able to walk tomorrow or I might not -we'll see.

    In the meantime, it's great to be out of bed and feeling stronger. Tineo is lovely and the taxi driver pointed out lots of sights along the way. It's a shame to be skipping sections, but it is what it is.

    We've struck it lucky with hotels - today's place is amazing. It's a 4 star hotel with a special rate for pilgrims. We have a big room with a massive bath!    Meer informatie

    Albergue Casa Ricardo - Campiello

    No more posts about sickness, we're on the move again! We took it easy today and walked a beautiful 12 kms, most of which was on natural trails.

    I'm cautiously optimistic that we'll be able for a longer mountain walk tomorrow. Its apparently one of the most spectacular sections of this Camino, but not recommended in fog or bad weather. The forecast is good, so fingers crossed!

    This is a fantastic albergue. It has small dorms, 2 private rooms, laundry facilities and the best-stocked kitchen I've seen on the Camino. There's a shop and a bar here too. Ricardo is a true gentleman and the albergue is in the house where he was born. Highly recommended.    Meer informatie

    Berducedo

    This will be short and sweet, as I'm falling asleep on my feet. I really wanted to walk the famously beautiful Hospitales variant today, but I wasn't sure if I'd be strong enough. It's 29kms from Campiello with absolutely no services for most of the way. Plus, it's proper hillwalking. We chatted to Ricardo and his staff at the albergue and I decided I could do it if I took transport for the first few kms of road walking and didn't carry my back pack. They arranged all of that for me, making my wish possible. Such kind and helpful people.

    There are no words to describe the beauty of this walk. I will try to write something when I'm not so tired, but here are some photos in the meantime.

    It's safe to say that I am now fully recovered and raring to go. Buenas noches, amigos!    Meer informatie

    Grandas de Salime

    We walked about 20kms today, but it felt like a lot more! There was a steep climb early in the day, followed by a really long descent on a rocky path. Our pace was pretty slow - but this was also because of the number of photos we took.

    Although there was more road walking than yesterday, we spent much of the day on natural trails and under pine trees. The views of the river and reservoir were fantastic.    Meer informatie

    A Fonsegrada - about 26kms

    Another day of steep climbs, stony descents and dreamy mountain views. We've found a good walking rhythm and today was easier than expected. However, as is so often the case, the last few kms were very very tough.

    We're in a great private albergue - spotlessly clean and it has washing machines! Luxury 😊

    O Cadavo - another 26kms done

    Today's walk had it all - misty early morning landscapes, plenty of natural trails, pine forests and well-positioned stopping points. The catch? An absolute killer hill just before A Lastra. It was reassuring to discover that the super-fit youngsters found it hard too 😊.

    The weather was hot and sunny today - we still haven't had a wet day since arriving in Spain.    Meer informatie

    Lugo

    Just arrived in Lugo after a 30km walk from O Cadavo. It was long, but not particularly difficult and mostly on country roads or dirt tracks.

    I was expecting a long hard slog into the city, but it was actually quite a pleasant entry.

    Looking forward to a hot shower before exploring. Lugo seems to be a lovely city.    Meer informatie

    Friol - about 29kms

    We dithered a lot this morning about which route to take. We initially decided to stay on the Camino Primitivo and walk about 20kms to San Roman .... but then the green arrows of the Camino Verde were so very tempting.

    In the end, we did what every responsible pilgrim would do - we tossed a coin. The Camino Verde was the winner, so we went off-piste for a 2-day walk that will connect us with the Camino del Norte tomorrow.

    We expected a 24km walk, but it turned out to be a lot more. The route markings were unclear in places, meaning a few little detours. All part of the fun!    Meer informatie
