    Stopover in Brussels

    September 14, 2017 in Belgium ⋅ 🌧 12 °C

This morning I took the ICE from Frankfurt to Brussels and shared the ride with a lot of soccer fans from Cologne going to London for the Europa League game tonight.
After check-in I took part of a free guided tour. Unfortunately it was raining quiet a lot but luckily I got an umbrella from the tour guide :) With all the Manekken Pis in the city it's no wonder that it's mostly raining.
Do you know what's the most famous belgian comic is? No it isn't Tintin (Tim und Struppi)... It's a happy family wearing white caps and they are blue ;)
Of cours I couldn't miss trying belgian waffles. But all the whipped cream, chocolat, strawberry toppings are just for tourist so I had a plain one - delicious!

    Initial Impression

    September 16, 2017 in Canada ⋅ ☀️ 26 °C

Yesterday I arrived well in Montreal. I'm so lucky with the weather (sunny 25°C)!
My hostel is located in Old Montreal close to the port - perfect spot.
And Indian Summer is almost coming :)
The first night I was awakened by a really loud and annoying sound. It took me a while until I realised that it was the fire alarm. It was half past twelve... We all went outside and waited for about 10 minutes until the staff turned it off. Luckily it was just a false alarm.Read more

  • Day 6

    Montréal

    September 19, 2017 in Canada ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

Impressions of my last days in Montréal:
Saturday I walked through Little Italy a cute district with nice houses and maple trees all along the streets.
All over the city there are pianos you can play on because of the 375th birthday of Montréal.
Saturday night we went to POP Montréal an International Music Festival for free. We listened to a girl playing modern songs composed by herself. Thereafter a young columbian girl was singing. Gosh, she got fire in her soul!
Sunday I walked up to Mont Royal and enjoyed the beautiful lookout up there. I've also been to Saint Joseph's Oratory. It was just massive!
For the last to nights I did a free self guided tour through old Montréal with another german girl where you can start short movie projections on house walls by an app. They did it for the 375th birthday as well. It's a great idea to tell some stories about Montreal's history.
Yesterday I planned my first roadtrip with three other travelers. We gonna rent a car for one week checking out some national parks in indian summer.
    I'm excited! :)

    1. Roadtrip (Indian Summer) first days

    September 23, 2017 in Canada ⋅ 🌙 20 °C

Thursday morning we picked up our rental car at the airport in Montréal. We took the scenic drive 138 to Quebec, where another girl joined us and bought food for the next days. We drove further north towards NP Hautes Gorges and stopped at a rest area next to the highway and decided to stay overnight there. The day after we did a 5 hours hike up to three great lookouts and enjoyed the beautiful landscape. Luckily there was a camping ground with a shower next to the parking area. So we took a quick one for 50 Cents and felt much better afterwards cause it was really humid at daytime. After a few hours drive we took the ferry to Tadoussac and stood overnight at a free spot we found on an app. We were anxious to see how it looks like at daytime. The spot was quite popular at the weekend by local youngsters. I wook up 6:15am, perfect to go down to the lonesome beach and watch the sunrise. For this day we planned whale watching from the costal line and another hike up to Mt. Adela Lessard. We were lucky and spotted two whale fins. :)Read more

    1. Roadtrip (Indian Summer) last days

    September 27, 2017 in Canada ⋅ ☀️ 20 °C

On the 24th we took the ferry from Tadoussac early in the morning and had a nice view from the top. Our destination for today was Mauricie National Park where we first stopped at the visitor center to ask for a nice track for tomorrow. Thereafter we jumped in the refreshing lake - the best thing we could do at 30°C 😃 For tonight we found a good spot to camp behind a big hall on a field, watched the starry sky and slept really well. While we had breakfast the lands owner came. He was so friendly and didn't say anything that we stood overnight. We did a 17km long trail (Deux-Criques) in Mauricie National Park and in the afternoon we drove as far as we came to Algonquin Provincial Park. At midnight we stopped in Cobden and slept on a free camp ground. We reached Algonquin Provincial Park around 11am, walked two shorter tracks and did kayaking in the afternoon. This was fun. 😊 On our last day we walked another 11km trail (Mizzy Lake) which is famous to spot wildlife. But unfortunately we saw just a few squirrels like the last days and one smal snake.Read more

  • Day 16

    Toronto

    September 29, 2017 in Canada ⋅ 🌧 13 °C

Luckily I found a great couchsurfing place for three nights in Toronto in walking distance from downtown.
The first day I met up with Madeline for planning our roadtrip to New Brunswick and Nova Scotia starting on the 30th. Thereafter I enjoyed the beautiful weather while explorig Toronto Islands by walking around for three hours. There and on the ferry I got an amazing view of the skyline! :) I went out for dinner with my host Pulkit, he showed me Toronto at night and we had the famous japanese cheesecake from Uncle Tetsu's - so fluffy and delicious. Friday was my first rainy day in Canada but it wasn't too bad at all so I checked out Kensington Market with James (australian guy I met in Montréal) for lunch and walked around a bit. All the touristy stuff and Niagara falls I will visit when I return from the next roadtrip.Read more

    Gatineau/Ottawa, Montréal & Québec City

    October 4, 2017 in Canada ⋅ ☁️ 18 °C

My second roadtrip started on 30th of september. Madeline and I met at Toronto airport in the afternoon and drove up to Gatineau where we spent our first night at a couchsurfer's place and had some nice chat with him and his roommate. We woke up early in the morning and drove to the city center and checked out Ottawa, Canada's capital with the parliament. In Gatineau we went to Mosaïcanada comparable with a botanical garden but they built huge figures made out of flowers. Really beautiful.
In the early afternoon we continued to Montréal where we did couchsurfing as well. I showed Madeline my favorite places and we had a delicious all you can eat sushi.
Tuesday we spent our day in Québec City and visited the beautiful old town. Our couchsurfer host was a friendly, funny guy. He invited some friends for dinner and made a tasty risotto for us. The next day we had the traditional poutine for lunch. It's french fries and cheese curds topped with a brown gravy.
After all these cities it will be time for national parks again. :)

    Gaspésie Nationalpark

    October 5, 2017 in Canada ⋅ ☀️ 8 °C

After a few hours drive we reached Gaspésie Nationalpark. We walked up to Mont Ernest-Laforce, enjoyed a 360° view and ate lunch there. Unfortunately we were too high for the coloured trees and most of the leaves were already gone. On our way back we saw a young moose in the middle of the path. He didn't care and continued eating just 3m in front of us.
The second trail headed us to Lac aux Américains.
For dinner we found a nice pub where I ate the best fresh calamari I ever had! :)

  • Day 23

    Forillon Nationalpark

    October 6, 2017 in Canada ⋅ 🌬 13 °C

It was such a scenic drive up to Forillon Nationalpark so we stopped a few times for taking photos and enjoyed the beauty of the landscape. The leaves are shining in a great diversity of colours, it's extremely impressive! At Cap Bon-Ami we walked up to a high lookout and enjoyed a 360° view again. Just amazing, the perfect time for this season and we're so lucky with the weather! On our second trail up to Cap-Gaspé I recognized something black moving behind a hill. So we approached slowly. It was no bear, no moose... It was a porcupine. :)
For the night we got a special offer in an auberge. We got a 8-bed dorm just for us three.
