Dinner at Schmitchen

We had the Wurstspieße (sausage skewers) and Argentinean rump steak at Schmitchen. It was delicious! - Sean
Ready for the Museum

It's a very popular place, we had to wait in line for quite a while.
Schokoladenmuseum

The Cologne Chocolate Museum on the Rhine was unique and fun!
Just Hanging Out

Bacharach AirBnB

Ok, this one might be our favorite of the trip. Built in 1622, but fully remodeled with all the modern amenities. Video tour.
Bacharach

This quaint little town in the Middle Rhein is straight out of a fairy tale.
Postenturm

This watchtower is where all the famous pics of Bacharach and the Rhine are taken from.
Vineyards

I literally don't know how they farm in these vineyards. Maybe with climbing gear? The town is surrounded by these steep hills covered in vines. So lovely, but also perplexing.

Long Awaited House Cave Tour

Dinner at Kleines Brauhaus

We had a great dinner here. We tried a couple of the local Riesling wines. I had some very tasty schnitzel with mushrooms and we finished it off with cherry streusel.
Rhine River Cruise

We went downstream from Bacharach to St. Goarhausen
Sankt Goarshausen

Ruedesheim

This is definitely the most touristy town we've been to here. It's right at the end of the Middle Rhine where the steep river valley turns to rolling hills.
Vineyards for miles!
Niederwald Monument

This monument is to commemorate victory over France. The statue of Germania reminded us of the Statue of Liberty. It's huge.
The views from up here are spectacular.
Bingen

Bingen is right across from Ruedesheim. We took the car ferry over to catch the train on the right side of the river to get home.
It was blazing hot, but it would have been cool if we had the time toもっと詳しく
Train to Zermatt

A very slow train took us way up into the Alps. I kept running from side to side of the train trying to get pictures.
Hinterdorfstrasse

Old Town. The chalets were built in stilts to help with heating.
Exploring Zermatt

Mountaineer's Cemetery

Many of the people who died in the mountains around here are buried in this little cemetery.
Zermatt AirBnB

So Zermatt is amazing. It's the last town before the Matterhorn, and our room has a balcony with a view (well, other than that darn crane, lol - thank goodness for Magic Eraser).
