    Last day in Arles and we are off to visit the Camargue. Just before Arles the Rhone splits with a smaller but significant branch cutting to the right towards the sea. Between them has developed a kind of enormous delta with quite a unique ecology. We took a tour through the region in an open topped four wheel drive. It was an interesting area with an even more interesting history. Rice grown at first just to dry it out - a story that they first tried eating it without taking off the husk and went blind and needing to bring in people from south East Asia to show them how. But the main points of interest are the white horses, the black bulls and the flamingoes.Read more
