    Protests and the left bank

    Got up ridiculously early to drop our bags at the next hotel and get a taxi in allegedly horrendous traffic (I may have napped, so no way to be sure) to get to Versailles in plenty of time for our 9 am "beat the entry line" breakfast reservations at the restaurant behind the gates only to be greeted with a closed sign. The guards said they may or may not open at 10 or 1030. After standing in the chilly wind and debating for a bit, we decided to call it a bust and got another taxi back through more alleged traffic (where I may have had an additional nap). Went to Les Deux Magots for a Hemingway breakfast (which was eggs and some bread) and another breakfast (which was a croissant and two other breads) plus ridiculous hot chocolate that was basically just... chocolate, and was delicious. Unfortunately they applied the same logic to the orange juice, which was basically an orange (I don't think it should be called juice if chewing is involved). The Louvre and Musee d'Orsay were closed so we checked out the Musee de Cluny (which was only partially open, but was also free). Then Shakespeare & Company for a Fitzgerald collection that I didn't already have, which got the famous Shakespeare & Co stamp (and obvs a tote bag too, bc I have a problem).
