Pittock Mansion

After lunch we just started driving randomly further into downtown Portland. I think all my years working in downtown St. Louis and covering news etc in some very unique areas has made me pretty comfortable with these kind of drives. Just people watching and seeing the sights.

We wound through the hills nearby and a couple Googles later we found a real gem. The Pittock Mansion! Built in 1914, Pittock Mansion is a 16,000-square-foot French Renaissance château located 1,000 feet above sea level in Portland’s West Hills. Originally the private estate of Oregonian publisher Henry Pittock, it is famous for its panoramic views of downtown Portland and five Cascade peaks, and for being saved from demolition by a community rally in 1964.
