Happy 4th of July!

We chose to do the Oregon coast on the 4th of July. Thankfully we didn’t run into any traffic snarls or parades that interrupted our drive. Starting toward the northern end of things we drove through some big, beautiful pines and forests of ferns! Snaking our way (in our BIG truck) to the park overlooking Haystack rock on Cannon Beach was an adventure unto itself. Narrow roads and tight turns built for a European touring car were extra fun. Hairpin turns. We go slow and careful not to swap paint with anyone who might be going down as we ascend.

Afterwards we park at Moe’s Cafe for a walk on the beach. Haystack was probably a mile down away but well worth the stop… but Moe’s clam chowder was recommended and soon as they opened we were ready for lunch. Jackie gave the chowder a thumbs up and I enjoyed the fish n chips!

Tillamook Creamery was on the way and SO MANY folks recommended it! This is a classic tourist spot. HUGE cheese and ice cream factory with tours and tasting rooms and gift shops and of course we had to try a flight of three ice cream flavors. BTW we approved of all three flavors.
