Moving On East

Well our time in Eugene with the Tubman clan was much enjoyed, but it is time we were moving on to the remainder of our trip. We headed east on Highway 58 and other roads to Deschutes National Forest. We stopped for lunch and a rest at a pull out by Odell Lake. Finally on to LaPine State Park on the Deschutes River. The campground is very nice and well kept. We took the bikes off the Jeep and took a 5 mile ride, first to the McGregor Overlook of the Deschutes River, then on to the Big Tree. At the Overlook, the river does a gooseneck. The Big Tree is not a Sequoia, but a 500 year old Ponderosa Pine. It is the largest Ponderosa we have ever seen.Read more
