• Departing the trees

    September 25 in the United States ☀️ 84 °F

We woke to a wet campground. It rained for a while overnight. The wet trees blocked the Starlink signal from space, so no internet until we got moving. After gassing up both the motorhome and the Jeep at Costco in Bend, we headed east on US Highway 20. We quickly left the forest and passed through PJ (Pinyon Juniper habitat) and then into the vast open sage/grasslands of eastern Oregon. Highway 20 is mostly straight and flat and in very good condition. We stopped for lunch at Hampton Station. The food was good and it gave Les a little rest from driving. We had a tail wind most of the way, so the speed was 65mph instead of the normal 60mph. On the outskirts of Burns, we stopped at the BLM Burns District Office and bought a good map of the Steens Mountain area we plant to visit tomorrow. Leaving Burns on highway 205, we went another 22 miles to The Narrows RV Park. We will stay three nights.Read more
