Haliburton Sculpture Forest

I set phone bitch for Halliburton. I wanted to check out the sculpture forest. Such a lovely drive along winding roads beside the lakes. It reminded me of all those fishing trips with dad as a kid. Getting there was half the adventure.

A white tail deer was standing at the edge of the park when we arrived. After a bit, she ran right by us, to join up with her herd just inside the forest. I could just pick out the antlers and an occasional tail as they wandered away.

We hung out there for a couple of hours, but didn't really explore much. A gravel trail would have put me on foot with too many birds to carry around. We hung out in the van in the shade, had lunch, and continued on our way.Read more

Buttermilk Falls

Next stop was Buttermilk Falls. Good for a short break. Just enough room for a couple of cars to pull off the highway on each side of the falls, a picnic table, lots of shade, and a port-a-potty.

The falls were beautiful, and oh so loud!

North Bay Lookout

We ended the day in North Bay at the lookout. It's a beautiful spot. The park is fantastic, and you feel a bit like you're on top of the world.

A popular overnight spot for travelers.

Worlds Shortest Covered Bridge

"Don’t miss the unique opportunity to stop and view the World’s Shortest Covered Bridge, according to the Guinness World Book of Records.

The Bridge is 11 feet, 3 inches (3.4 m) long along the roof ridge, though the water covering is only 4 feet of that across a concrete culvert. The bridge holds one lane of traffic, and one lane of walkers."

The bridge is completely unnecessary in this day and age, and probably hinders traffic more than anything else, both by the locals having to wait for one lane of traffic, as well as the tourists, with no place to park but the side of the road. Fortunately, it is a quiet little neighbourhood.

We also stopped at Veteran's park, but it was rather limited for shaded parking. I missed the beach (and chip stand) in Latchford, so I'll need to do that the next time I pass through.Read more
