"A dynamic community nestled in the heart of the Pre-Cambrian Shield. Named Ontario*s Most Historic Town and a Parks Canada National Historic Site, Cobalt enjoys all of the services of much larger communities in a relaxed lifestyle.

Cobalt boasts the cleanest water in the country having protected its water supply since 1917 through the Cobalt Municipal Water Act, unique legislation passed by the Ontario Government. The source of the town drinking water is totally protected from development or recreational use.

Described as one of the most interesting communities in the country, Cobalt offers a unique experience for residents and visitors alike.

At its peak, nearly ten thousand people lived in Cobalt and the town boasted many of the amenities of a large city. Many of the buildings which held these amenities are still up and running. Some are tourist hot spots, while some are small shops and new businesses running in these old, historic buildings."

    Cobalt Walking Trail

"The Town of Cobalt was once a thriving community boasting all the amenities of major cities. It had its own newspaper, a stock exchange, a Y.M.C.A. with an indoor pool and bowling alley (the remnants of which can still be found in the municipal building), a theatre, opera house and a number of banks and hotels. The original Bank of Ottawa building and early Bank of Commerce are still in excellent condition on the main street.
    Heritage Silver Trail
*The Heritage Silver Trail winds its way through town and along the far side of Cobalt Lake. It was established to halt the decay of many area landmarks that attest to the glory days of the once booming silver mining camp which extends well beyond Cobalt*s municipal boundaries, into and through the Townships of Coleman, Bucke, Lorrain and the Gillies Limit.
    Devil's Rock Hiking Trail
The sheer cliffs and view over Lake Timiskaming are truly spectacular; well worth the short hike to reach the lookout."
