  • Sidney, Nova Scotia, Canada

    23 september 2017, Kanada ⋅ 🌙 9 °C

Sydney is the only city on the island of Nova Scotia. We were welcomed into the port by “The Big Ceilidh Fiddle” which was created to recognize the pre-eminence of fiddle music. This music is a major part of the Scottish and Irish heritage of Cape Breton.
Our walking tour was through the colonial part of Sydney. Our guide was dressed in a period costume and took us to some of the oldest remaining homes and churches. We were told stories about these furnished restored homes by volunteers also in costume.

  • Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island

    24 september 2017, Kanada ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

Today we visited Prince Edward Island (PEI) which is the smallest Canadian province. We docked in Charlottetown, which is the birthplace of modern Canada. It is PEI’s oldest and largest city.
We spoke to the local representative on board, got a map and were on our way. We walked through historic Charlottetown following the “Fathers of Confederation” route (a painted line on the sidewalk). We viewed wonderful examples of Victorian architecture, quaint boutiques and Province House (the provincial legislature since 1847).Läs mer

  • Saguenay, Quebec, Canada

    26 september 2017, Kanada ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

Our ship slowly sailed along the the Saguenay River and through one of the worlds most beautiful fjords. As we passed a tall Statue of the Virgin Mary the ship played "Ave Maria".
We had a half day Best of Saguenay tour. We visited the Fjord Museum and had an up close glass blowing demonstration by its glass-maker and sculptor. We went to the home of the barber-painter Arthur Villeneuve, who covered every inch of his home with his painting. We ended at a goat farm that produces goat mohair wool.Läs mer

  • Montreal, Canada

    29 september 2017, Kanada ⋅ ⛅ 12 °C

We had a private full day of touring Montreal with an excellent guide. We visited all 12 of our must see sights including Notre-Dame Basilica, Parc of Mount Royal, Westmount, St. Helene’s and Notre-Dame Islands, the Underground City and the Bagg Street Shul.
We walked through several neighborhoods admiring the different ethnic and period architecture.
As two East Coast natives we were both excited and skeptical about the famous Montreal bagels. Our guide took us to her favorite bagel shop. WOW! We became believers as we watched them hand roll and bake us the delicious bagels.

  • Montreal, Canada, (Day 2)

    30 september 2017, Kanada ⋅ 🌙 10 °C

Our primary objective was food: We wanted to sample Montreal’s specialities of Poutine and Smoked Meat. We had read about Schwartz’s and Reuben’s Deli. Our Concierage told us that Reuben’s was walking distance from the hotel. When we arrived every table was filled and people were waiting. The food was terrific! The portions were so large we did not eat dinner.Läs mer
