Die Sprache hat heute jedoch nurnoch etwa 20'000-30'000 Sprecher. Die eine Hauptvariante, Niedersorbisch, wird wohl in den nächsten 20-30 Jahren verloren gehen, Obersorbisch hingegen wird, so die aktuelle Einschätzung, das 21. Jahrhundert überdauern, obwohl die Sprecherzahl weiterhin abnimmt.
Die Stadt selbst wird durch eine weitgehend erhaltene Stadtmauer dominiert und ist äusserst malerisch - aber seht selbst...

A visit to the political and cultural centre of the Sorbs, a West Slavic people whose ancestral settlement area is in East Saxony and South Brandenburg. Today, however, the language has only about 20,000-30,000 speakers. One of the main variants, Lower Sorbian, will probably be lost in the next 20-30 years, while Upper Sorbian, according to current estimates, will survive into the 22st century, although the number of speakers continues to decline.
