Wrocław ist nun also die erste Stadt, die ich in Polen besuche. Ihr fragt euch nun wohl, wie man das richtig ausspricht und - Überraschung - ich habe es versucht, bin gescheitert, und dann zum Namen Breslau zurückgekehrt.
Auch die Stadt ist zudem wohl eine, in die man gerne zurückkehrt. (Top-Überleitung ich weiss) Breslau hat eine fantastische Altstadt, welche von seiner wechselhaften Geschichte zeugt. (Man sagte mir allerdings der Begriff "reichhaltige Geschichte" werde bevorzugt) Von slawischen Siedlern gegründet, wechselte die Stadt mehrfach zwischen verschiedenen europäischen Mächten hin und her. Ab dem 12. Jahrhundert war sie mehrheitlich von Deutschen bewohnt, bis diese Ende des Zweiten Weltkrieges vertrieben wurden. Ersetzt wurden sie durch Polen, welche wiederum im Osten durch die Sowjetunion vertrieben wurden.
Heute ist die Stadt eine lebendige Studentenstadt - rund 100'000 Studierende gibt es hier. Und wer kann es ihnen verübeln, die Innenstadt ist gemütlich, und einige der Bars haben am Wochenende von Freitag bis Sonntag durchgehend geöffnet.

So Wrocław is now the first city I'm visiting in Poland. You're probably wondering how to pronounce it correctly, and - surprise - I tried, failed, and then returned to the name Breslau.
The city is also one to which one likes to return. (Amazing transition I know) Wroclaw has a fantastic old town, which bears witness to its chequered history. (I'm told, however, the term "rich history" is preferred) Founded by Slavic settlers, the city moved back and forth between various European powers several times. From the 12th century onwards, it was inhabited by a majority of Germans until they were expelled at the end of the Second World War. They were replaced by Poles, who in turn were expelled in the east by the Soviet Union.
Today, the city is a vibrant student city - there are around 100,000 students here. And who can blame them, the city centre is cosy, and some of the bars are open continuously on weekends from Friday to Sunday.Read more
