Etwas mehr als einen Tag bin ich noch in Mexico City, bevor es wieder zurück nach Toronto geht. Kurz nach meiner Ankunft findet die Dìa de Muertos - Parade, die durch James Bond berühmt wurde, statt. Und ich - bin nicht begeistert. Es wirkt alles etwas unecht und die Bevölkerung ist mehr Zuschauer als wirklich involviert. Sehr touristisch halt. Das spiegelt sich auch in den unglaublichen Menschenmassen wider. Ich spaziere deshalb auf den weniger überlaufenen Nebenstrassen durch die Stadt und ziehe mich bei jeder Gelegenheit in verschiedene Cafés zum Lesen zurück. Das Buch "1491" hat es mir wirklich angetan.
Mein Flug wird erst nach ein Uhr in der Nacht abfliegen, ich habe also genügend Zeit. Da ich mir aber der stehts kritischen Verkehrssituation in Mexico City bewusst bin, fahre ich heute früh los. Und siehe da: das erste Mal diesen Urlaub gibt es keinen Stau und ich bin viel zu früh am Flughafen. Nun also wie weiter? Ich entscheide mich die Zeit mit etwas Luxus in einer für Schweizer Verhältnisse erschwinglichen Flughafen-Lounge zu verbringen. Für gerademal knapp 30 Franken gibt es ein Buffet, ein Gericht von der Karte, all-inklusive Getränke, verstellbare Lehnstühle und - etwas seltsam - Handmassagen.

I have just over a day left in Mexico City before heading back to Toronto. Shortly after my arrival, the Día de Muertos parade, made famous by James Bond, takes place. And I'm not impressed. It all seems a bit fake and the population is more spectators than really involved. Very touristy, in other words. This is also reflected in the incredible crowds. So, I walk through the city on the less crowded side streets and retreat to various cafés to read whenever I get the chance. I'm really into the book "1491".
My flight won't leave until after one in the night, so I have plenty of time. However, as I am aware of the consistently critical traffic situation in Mexico City, I set off early this morning. But surprise: for the first time this holiday, there is no traffic jam and I arrive at the airport far too early. So what now? I decide to spend the time enjoying a little luxury in an airport lounge that is affordable by Swiss standards. For just under 30 Swiss francs, I get a buffet, a dish from the menu, all-inclusive drinks, adjustable reclining chairs and – somewhat strangely – hand massages.Read more
