    Mit dem Nachtbus nach Budapest fahren und erholt ankommen - das war der Plan. Angekommen sind wir dann auch, wenn von Erholung keine Rede sein kann. Bei einem Kaffee buchen wir unsere Unterkunft für die Nacht. Unsere Pläne ein Hostel zu buchen werden schnell durch ein 4-Sternehotel abgelöst, als wir die günstigen Preise sehen. Wir sind sehr positiv überrascht - anstatt denn klischeehaften Plattenbauten zeigt sich Budapest als schöne, saubere Metropole mit toller klassischer Architektur. Ein Highlights sind das überdimensionierte Parlamentsgebäude, in dem wir eine Führung besuchen. Aber auch die Aussicht vom Schloss Buda und den Besuch des Thermalbads: "Széchenyi Thermal Bath" sind empfehlenswert.

    Take the night bus to Budapest and arrive fit - that was the plan. We arrived, even though there was no sign of rest. Over a coffee we book our accommodation for the night. Our plans to book a hostel are quickly replaced by a 4-star hotel when we see the reasonable prices. We are very pleasantly surprised - instead of the clichéd prefabricated buildings, Budapest is a beautiful, clean metropolis with great classical architecture. One highlight is the oversized parliament building, where we take a guided tour. But also the view from Buda Castle and the visit to the thermal bath: "Széchenyi Thermal Bath" are recommendable.     Bratislava hat ein deutlich kleineres Stadtzentrum als Budapest, dafür sind die Sehenswürdigkeiten zu Fuss gut erreichbar. Wähend uns die mittelalterliche Innenstadt gut gefällt, warten die Osteuropa - Klischees hinter jeder Ecke. Das Hotel empfielt uns einen grossen Park auf der anderen Donauseite. Dieser kann selbst mit viel gutem Willen nur als ziemlich trostlos bezeichnet werden. Auch sind von da alte, verlassene Industriebrachen nicht weit. Jannick beschreit die stereotypische Stimmung, welches wir in osteuropäischen Gegenden erwarten treffend als "Orte mit einer Fülle an Leere".
    Aber naja, Fazit: hübsches Städtchen, jedoch nur solange man in der unmittelbaren Altstadt oder der Burg bleibt.

    Bratislava has a much smaller city centre than Budapest, but the sights are within easy walking distance. While we like the medieval city centre, the Eastern European clichés are waiting around every corner. The hotel recommended a large park on the other side of the Danube. Even with a lot of good will, this can only be described as rather desolate. Old, abandoned industrial wastelands are also not far away. Jannick aptly describes the stereotypical mood we expect in Eastern European areas as "places with an abundance of emptiness".
    But well, the bottom line is: it's a pretty town, but only as long as you stay in the immediate old town or the castle.    Read more
