Left this morning at about 9, north out of Windorah heading for Stonehenge, passed over the cooper creek again at Jundah nice little outback town very green and tidy would be a nice spot to spend a night or two.
Arrived in Stonehenge at 11, not much here, van park is neat and tidy, took a walk around the town there is an info centre, fuel stop and pub, ran into a couple from near Bright very interesting to talk too anyway will check out the pub for a drink tonight and maybe dinnner.Läs mer
Had a great night at the Stonehenge pub last night, dinner was very good and we met a couple that are still farming 1200acres at Braidwood in nsw, Noelene aged 73 and Jim 81 caravanning around the outback. We spent the night chatting about farming and listening to Jim's story's he was a very funny man, both of them are great for there age.
We left this morning at 9 and it was a straight run on single lane bitumen all the way into longreach, arrived at the longreach tourist park at 11, this park is massive it has 300 sites, caravans everywhere, setup and headed of to the bakery for lunch, great pies here. Just waiting for the Remetta's to turn up, 23 degrees and a slight breeze very dry here as it seems to be most times we are here.Läs mer
Started the day with bacon and egg breakfast and then we headed off down the street with Sam and Maureen, had lunch at the bakery and continued wandering around the Longreach shops. Had a lazy afternoon and for happy hour at our site we were joined by Barry and Heather Sharp and Sam and Maureen, lots of yik yak and travel stories. Very dry and dusty, the water truck has been around this avo wetting down the tracks, caravan park is just a money making job not much improvements since here 3 years ago and hot water in showers is barely hot 👎Läs mer
Another nice day 24 degrees, said goodbye to Sam and Maureen as they are heading further north to Lawn Hill, we decided not to travel with them as we didn't want to go any further up and have a more relaxing trip not doing to many miles. We went down town and did some food shopping and just had a wander around the street, Longreach is a very relaxing and laid back town with lots of tourists. Walked down to the stockmans hall of fame and the Qantas museum for look around this avo, picked a up a few souvenirs, going to the woodshed bar tonight for drinks and tea.Läs mer
Left at 8:30 this morning, stopped at Barcaldine for a look around went to the tree of knowledge to see if we could get any smarter don't think so 😎, very nice place would stay here next time. Kept going to Alpha had a plan to stay there but didn't look very good so we motored on to Emerald and out to the Fairburn dam, got a great site in the van park backing onto the bush, time to setup and have a few drinks it is a lovely 24 degrees.Läs mer
Off to Emerald today to have a look around and do some shopping about 25kms to town from here, plenty of shopping to do in town with 2 major centres and the Main Street, had a birthday lunch for Craig at KFC, yum hadn't had junk food for 2 weeks. Got back home and went out into the bush and cut some firewood, cooking chicken drumsticks in the camp oven on the top of the pig for dinner tonight with a few drinks. The weather is fantastic and our site is great on the bush very quite and a little secluded and the amenities, shop and services in the van park are excellent.Läs mer
Yet another magic day here 25 degrees, off for a walk down to the lake some very nice picnic areas and a boat ramp full of grey nomads and their little tinny's, one poor old mate lost both of his tyres off his trailer whilst towing it down to the ramp, not surprising as they were no bigger than wheelbarrow wheels 😂 anyway he just kept going on the rims and launched it. They mostly put pots in and get red claw which is like a small lobster no bag limit and apparently there is plenty in there. The Fairbairn dam is the size of 3 Sydney harbours and at present is 44 percent full.Läs mer
Still chillen out at Fairbairn dam, even warmer today 27 degrees, took a drive out to the gem fields, Sapphire, Rubyvale and Anakie. Had morning tea at a great little cafe in Rubyvale, checked out the Saturday market not too much there to look at, so into Emerald for lunch and a wander around the shops, spending the rest of the day relaxing in the great weather, cooking on the pig tonight. Found this lazy moggie in the store at Rubyvale his name was Garfield, very appropriate hey !Läs mer
Another warm night and 27 degrees today, bacon and eggs to start the day, catch up on the jobs today, washing and wood cutting, out with the stihl battery chainsaw, did a great job on the qld stringy timber.
Got chatting to the neighbors for an hour, then we walked down to the lake, very nice except for the skip bins that are full of redclaw scraps they stink bad. Roast lamb on the pig tonight, few drinks, yum!
Having a great time not doing much, just enjoying our time with each other.Läs mer
