3.5 hour flight. Refueled. Nobody at customs, so I left. (That is the procedure: I call CANPASS and if they are not there when I land, I am free to go.)

All the zig zagging around Seattle added a half hour to the flight.En savoir plus

0.3 hour flight. Done for the day. Daily total of 3.8 hours and 759 km (410 nm).
This is the most western part of the trip.

I will be earthbound for the next few days while staying at my son's. When I got to his place I decided I needed a nap. He took the photo of me resting... obviously my best side. Apparently my head was somewhere else.

Curiously the camera got damaged somehow after that so was out of commission. The good news is that I found a camera repair place. The bad news is that they finished it the morning I left, so I have no other shots from Vancouver.En savoir plus

The next leg was to Drayton Valley, AB to visit my brother. I had been watching the weather over the last few days looking for the best opportunity...it is always a challenge to find adequate flying weather, in Vancouver over one of the available routes through the mountains simultaneously.

For a while, Saturday looked like it might work. When talking with a weather briefer Thursday, it became clear that the best possibility, for perhaps a week, of making all the way through was probably Friday afternoon... now.

My Mission is to go beyond Hope, take the Coquihalla Highway to Kamloops, north to Valemount, then east by Jasper to Embarras.En savoir plus

Got a radio weather update for the route to Valemount. She said the sky was 50% covered with thunder clouds at Blue River airport (Mud Lake). I proceeded with the intention of doing a 180 if it looked nasty.En savoir plus

Perhaps my favourite trip photo.
Note the reflection of the mountains on the underside of the wing.

No thunder clouds now.

3.0 hour flight. Refueled.

Either the shadows are getting long, or I am taller due to the reduced gravity at this altitude.

Although the blurry cockpit photo was taken by mistake, it illustrates the use of the gps moving map instruments. The right hand one shows the plane position and heading over the planned track. The terrain profile shows my altitude relative to the approaching terrain. The left hand instruments shows a lot of red.... terrain at or above my current height.

The second photo shows the current view out the front... just following the road. No need to focus inside the cockpit on the instruments at the moment.En savoir plus
