Day 49.6 Cardiff to Llandinam

Tuesday: Up 08:00 away 09:30

Monday was supposed to be a day of 4 buses to travel from home back to Dinas Mawddwy. This is down from 5 buses last time I left home. An encouraging sign that I am making progress south. I got as far as Merthyr Tydfil. My journey stalled here because my second bus was delayed arriving at Merthyr by 30 minutes because of a road traffic accident. The delay would have prevented me catching my final bus, which only runs twice a day. So I returned home to retry on Tuesday.

Tuesday I tried again. This time my third Bus, between Newtown and Machynlleth, went into limp mode limiting its speed to 10-15 miles an hour. Which meant I would miss my connection to Dinas Mawddwy on my fourth bus. So I alighted bus in Caersws to walk 3 miles along the Severn Way to The Lion Inn Llandinam which has a campsite.

When I arrived at The Lion Inn Llandinam. I was Crestfallan to find the sign on the front door said 'Closed' on Tuesdays. Walked around the corner to see if I could get away with camping on the fields behind the pub. Here I meet proprietor Scott fixing a parasol in the beer garden. He was very welcoming, said camping was no problem and I can eat with him and his family. Discovered he was a former Soldier who had been in Bomb disposal, diving and numerous other activities about which we chatted for ages.

3 miles with 110' of ascent from Caersws to Llandinam completed at end of 49.6th day of walking. But none of this was on the Cambrian Way.
