• Day 50 Dinas Mawddwy to Mynydd Cemmaes

    July 9 in Wales ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

    Thursday: Up 07:00 away 08:30

Foggy start to the day so packed the tent carefully as it was a little damp. The hiking day began with an easy 2 mile walk on the old road out of Dinas Mawddwy to Mallwyd. I was passed by only 6 vehicles, it was very quiet. The old road runs parallel to the A470 which is very busy.

In Mallwyd I stopped to have breakfast in Carys' café in the Gulf filling station which also has a shop and a post office.

About 30 minutes out of Mallwyd I met Cambrian Way hiker David going the opposite direction. We chatted for a few minutes. I discovered he was 4 years younger than me, had a similar sized/weight rucksack, but was walking twice as many daily miles as me.

The rest of the day was a gentle green lane with Partridges occasionally flying passed me. Then a hard slog up a steep hill in hot temperature, followed by a mile across heath land, then down a track to cross a valley, then back up the other side into a forest, through the forest onto a hillside of 18 wind turbines where I wild camped near Turbine 9.
