    I stepped out of The Star Inn at 1pm straight into the heat of the day. 2 miles further on a footbridge crossed the Afon Clywedog stream. Taking on a suggestion I had read a few weeks ago during the heatwave, I tied my shirt to my walking stick, and dripped it in the stream. Getting the wet shirt back on was hard work, but it was worth it.

    I was passed by 3 walkers on the bridge. The only walkers I saw all day. They had swim suits on having been swimming in one of the lakes I would be passing on the next stage of my walk.
