Day 61 Llanddeusant to Glyntawe
August 2 in Wales ⋅ ☁️ 23 °C
Sunday: Up 08:50 away 11:00
Along Fan Hir walked into great swams of flying ants. It must have been, what I recently learned is, 'flying ant day'. For safety I walked the path that was further from the edge just in case one of the larger swams flew into me and caused me to temporarily loose direction. The hundreds of feet drop would have been an ignorminious end to my walk.
There was a party of 8-10 walkers ahead of me that I slowly gained on but never quite caught up. Other than them I did not see anyone on the Fan Hir ridge section of today's walk.
Once on the main A4067 there was a mile walk to Dan-Yr-Ogof caves entrance. I passed 2 pubs on the way - Tafarn y Garreg then the Gwyn Arms. Both already closed when I passed them shortly before 6pm. So no Cider for me tonight.
On the campsite I was met by the warden who wrote out a chit for me to fix beneath a tent peg to confirm I had paid. He suggested a shady pitch which would be in the sun in the morning. I gladly accepted.
The smart facilities block had 8-10 unisex shower rooms each containing a basin, toilet and paper towel dispenser. These were huge rooms but sadly poorly laid out. The toilets were so close to a wall one had to sit askew, the toilet paper dispenser was almost in the user's face, there were no clothes hooks, no shelves for wash bags or any other bags and the towel radiator was on full. With temperature outside 20C, and hotter in the direct sun, this made the shower room intolerably hot.
Other than that the site was fine. Smartly laid out, lots of trees and hedges, grass mown, well tarmaced and gravelled etc.
This is my last day walking. I will be going home tomorrow via a few buses for events. I plan to resume walking in a few weeks.

TravelerYou’ve done very well but it’s getting warmer again- most wise - resume when it’s a bit cooler. Probably have a couple of storms at the end of August 🙄🙄.

Like military precision Richard! 👌

Blimey the wash room is huge, so much so you could have a barn dance in there! I wish a lot more of the camping and caravan sites that we visit were like this, because of the confined space we have on some sites you can guarantee that I would drop my clean socks or trousers onto the wet surfaces. 😡
