TravelerHiked up Sulphur Mountain started at 06:45. Missed the 05:15 bus from the hostel. 2h15 to the observation tower with my heavy training pack.

Lake Louise Tent Campground

TravelerArrived and set up tent and began to prepare supper only to discover I had forgotten to purchase stove fuel in Banff which was left at home since it's not allowed on planes. GRRR... had to hike back to the village to get some. That put me behind schedule for early to bed. Ended up with 3 hours sleep and hot the road at 0100.

Getting to Lake Louise Shore

Needed to get to Lake Louise Shore to get 0400 shuttle to Moraine Lake to get to the trailhead for Sentinel Pass. Ended up being joined by a guy also on foot from Czechia who was in the same boat as me, needing to get to LLS. So we decided to walk. Lake Moraine Sentinel Pass Trailhead

Sentinel Pass Trailhead
Started trail at 0515 and climbed 540 m to the base of the pass, viewing the 10 Peaks up close! Wow! However at the pass I noticed there had been a large rockslide which had wiped out part of the pass trail! I hiked up the first switchback for a different angle and a bit closer and confirmed it was a washout. Definitely not safe unless you were Spiderman. I reported to the cansda Parks folks with photos. So headed back down for a shortened hike but a challenging one nonetheless.Read more

Decided to treat myself to Happy Hour 50% off Tacos. I still have two more full days to finish my food at the hostel. After this I will go back to the hostel and plan tomorrow and the next day hikes.

Sulphur Mountain Tower Samsun Peak

4th hard hike in a row. I could feel a little fatigue in the legs, mostly the calf muscles, but still good. You can see the haze from the forest fires and there's a faint smoky odor too. That may have had an effect on me also. Air Quality Index was in the "unhealthy for all" in the evening on Monday! Wore a mask and went outside for a walk downtown to survey.Read more

Johnston Canyon - Last Hike

Waiting for the bus to leave for Johnston Canyon. This morning I talked to a couple who were packing their bikes for the same journey as you! Small world indeed. We should arrive at the trail at 0935 MDT. The AQI was noted as in the moderate range today, so the hiking should be ok. Picture is from the bus. You can see the smoke hanging there.Read more

Caught the 1130 Vivogreen shuttle from Banff. Felt pretty fatigued yesterday evening. Finally got sleep in and get a decent number of hours of sleep. I think I was lacking some calories as well. Now it's back to Montreal and then drive back to Rimouski to arrive home just after supper time. Hopefully, I won't wake up to find a flight delayed notice!Read more

After deplaning, the famous Montreal baggage handlers did again. 90 minute wait for luggage as the lost track of one of the baggage carts. It made for a later arrival at home. That, and I had to stop for a 40 minute nap (sleep) along the way. I will just do some cardio workouts and some not so challenging hikes in the home Québec Parc National du Bic (48.35787, -68.80574) this week to keep the cardiovascular fitness up, but nothing too strenuous.Read more
