• D31- Camponaraya to Pradela 20.7km

    Jun 13–14, 2024 in Spain ⋅ ☀️ 10 °C

Leaving Camponaraya we walked along the road for a bit then stopped for breakfast at Cacabelos. We then took to the hills again where we passed some vineyards which we hadn’t saw for quite some time. We are seeing more cherry trees now and have tried a few different varietes. On the descent we see the town of Villafranca del Bierzo. Villafranca is a lovely town, quite big in compared to other towns we have passed through. Coming into town we passed the castle then stopped at a cafe for lunch. There was a market on in Villafranca so we wandered through on our way out of town. After we crossed the bridge we took the path to the right and went on up the hill. It was a very steep and long climb and eventually we arrived at Pradela. Chris was quite unwell today and only just managed to get to the Albergue after many stops to lay down for a while on the way. Anna the host of our Albergue was amazing, she made special rice soup for Chris, made us all feel so welcome, and didn’t rush us out the next morning. We slept until eight as we were having a rest day and only going to the next town which was 3km away. Anna made a beautiful chestnut cake. The long climb up the hill was definitely worth it.Read more
